The Atelier Tier, The Belvedere Torso, Part 4, Real Time

UPDATE: This is now the edited version of Part 4. Refined cut soon to come!

Hopefully I have removed anything that doesn't belong... I just wanted to get this out as soon as possible. I will update once I have cleaned it up as well. For now though, I hope you enjoy it and that I have not left in a moment when I drop a pencil and curse...

This is what I did as a student, using charcoal for the Torso. Eventually you can achieve harmony with any degree of resolution, it just has to be a consistant application.

Stephen, I once worked the two Bargue's Belvedere (front and back views) but I used charcoal sticks and not graphite. I feel that he question of "Resolution" around the turning of the forms from shadow to light have a different answer, since charcoals have both blunter tips (even while well sharpened) and a lower range of hardness, compared to pencils and graphite holders. What is your take on drawing Bargue plates such as the Belvedere Torso using charcoal as medium?

It is technically cross hatching but I am not thinking much about the direction of each stroke.

Hi Stephen, I'm enjoying this project. Never could have made it this far without your encouragement! When you are layering to build up value, are you thinking about what direction you want your marks in? Are you cross hatching?
