3D Skull Reference, Male

It's finally done! This 3D render is the final version of the skull I have been preparing for you all. It is made to the proportions of the skull I use in my studio with many many tweeks to suit my particular vision.

Feel free to use it as drawing or painting reference. I hope this makes it just a little bit easier to get your 100 skull sketches under your belt!

This model is so well made and immensively helpful for studying the skull! Does the female skull differ enough to justify working from another 3D model or are the differenes negligible for the purpose of skull studies? By the way: if you press the alt key (or the equivalent on Mac probably) and drag the mouse, you can change the lighting on the model, which is cool.

I love this, can't wait to draw this scull, thank you, Stephan!

This is incredible Stephen! Thank you for your dedication and hard work

Karen Fabian

I don't have a lesson about it for the moment, just a suggestion.

Thanks for putting this together Stephen. Great job! When you speak of using this model to get our 100 sketches, is there a video lesson that you can refer us to...I came late to the Atelier program and not sure where you put that out? Thx.

Dave Emerson

Wow. This is too amazing... Gracias!

Josue

Sounds interesting. I don't know the right person right now. If you happen to let me know ;)

Wonder if you could get someone make a simple Unreal Engine app which allowed shadow change, light bounce, shadow softness etc, could be really handy if you know the right person.

cacoe

This is so amazing! Thank you!!

Luisa Stearns

Thanks Stephen. This is great!

Jeff Kopseng

No way to do that yet- but you were right that eventually I am going to 3D print this skull.

Stephen Bauman Artwork

This is great. I had posted a comment on a live stream that I had wanted one thinking that you were 3D printing them. I was going to give them as gifts even. However, this is such a cool thing. Is there a way to gift memberships?

Hey Shuchi, some factors that you can use to determine are the size of the brow arch (superciliary crest) and the angle of the jawbone as well as the chin. male skulls tend to be thick in those places or more pronounces as a result of testosterone. also, the fame jaw has a softer angle and the male a more 90-degree angle. also the forehead on a male will be more sloped backwards and a female will be more straight up. these are of course generals and fit the medium of the bell curve.

Cool!

Thank you Stephen! Amature question but how does one determine it's a male skull ?

Shuchi Miuley

Very impressive Stephen!

Victoria Karlin

It is such a beneficial tool for us to use in drawing. Bravo Stephen!

Not yet, but it's on the list.

No worries, M!

Sketchfab doesnโ€™t support lighting direction change on the user end yet. Eventually I will make more models of the same skull with different lighting angles.

Stephen Bauman Artwork

Can we change the light source / direction? Or is that fixed? Or am I just being blind?

Gavin

I have the Proko skull and it's shape is more proportional to a child. Thanks !!
