Hi Stephen, I’m so excited to try this new medium. How do you recommend toning the paper? Would you recommend an ink dispersion? I saw a beautiful drawing done with sepia of a peony, and I wondered how to tone the paper to a middle value? Thank you so much for the demonstrations, absolutely gorgeous!

Sandy Freckleton-Gagon

I use fine grit sand paper.

Hi, Stephen, I am planning to try to do a Sepia chalk drawing by following the instructions. I found all materials I need from Amazon, except for the sharpener for the lead. Can you please let me know which type you use? Thank you!

HelenH

Most likely. Haven’t tried both though. Let me know if you have experienced them.

Hey Stephen do you think there is a difference between creatacolor 5.6 leads and the koh-l-noor 5.6 leads?

nicholas eger

I see- that’s a sanguine pencil.

At the 15 minute mark.

Arthur

Looked like a really thick colored pencil and not a graphite.

Arthur

Most likely it's the Mitsubishi Hi-uni.

Love the video. Can you mention the pencil you are using? Not the mechanical ones but I seem to be seeing an actual wooden pencil? Almost looks like a darkish red tone? Thanks

Arthur

Happy to help, Paul!

Ok this is really awsome stuff. I am sure loads of other people have had teaching however been entirely self taught I know my biggest issue is that I stress too much on likeness early on. So good to hear your comments learning loads.

Hmmmm... I remember having to really deep dive on google to find it. Did you try Jacksons Art Supply in the UK?
