Good morning everyone! nice to have a loose one with Doug and Vic and your calls... We always say we wanna do more of those, but then the allure of available guests keep us busy, which I like too... but maybe at least every other month it'll just be us three goofing around you can count on that.

I sent the Kenneth Welch Jr, Spillin' Tea with Kiki stuff to The On Cinema text thread on Thursday and we've all gone down the rabbit hole. Welch is really strange! The only record of him we could find are his own self paid for articles - I guess you can pay to have an article in the LA Times, and I assume other newspapers - This video of him talking about living underwater is VERY On Cinema /Tim and Eric coded - with a stock footage audience you won't believe. If it's your scene, feel free to join us down the rabbit hole and try and figure out what this guy's angle is.

Did anyone go see This is Lorelei on tour? I was on the list for their show at Scribble in LA last night, but saw they wouldn't be playing until 10:30 and bailed. But I hope to get some coffee with him (not Lorelei which is the band's name, but main guy who's name may be Nate.) today - I think that record "Box for Buddy, Box For Star" is a goddamn masterpiece!

No, Instead me and Millie watched the Phillies ruin the Dodgers historic winning streak and then looked for a movie to watch together. We settled on "The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3" on Criterion - Charlie came in and joined us - he had a lot of questions ("what does hostage mean?") and pretended to find it all boring but I think he was secretly rapt by it all. What a fun movie! I'd seen it years ago but it's a good thriller, with great character actors doing fun work. The last shot of Matthau in that movie should be a meme. Is it?

I also got a kick watching Sam Seder on our favorite podcast PBD! Man it was so funny and valuetaining. Sam managed to keep his cool and stand his ground, surrounded by those three goons. Our new friend RM Brown had a fun summary of it where he called Tom PBD's dad, which made me laugh. Vinny is the obvious favorite but Tom is a sleeper - sort of like when you loved Curly as a kid, but warmed up to Moe and Larry later in life.

It's nice to have some distraction and lightness in these dark times, eh? I hope we offer that to you - Damn, these Tariffs and the general past few months of Trump/Musk are stressing me out. I just don't know how it's gonna shake out. Could get a lot worse! But I'm also old enough to have lived through 9/11, The Financial Crisis of '08, Covid... Three events that seemed apocalyptic, each in their own way... and while not diminishing the tragedy and horrors they each brought on to millions of people, the world at large, and especially this country, sort of bounced back each time... It might take a while, but maybe at some point Trump's ego is just not going to let this get worse and he's going to roll it back - when people realize, we're not going to be growing bananas or mining for diamonds anytime soon. There's a darker version of all of this where Trump, Musk and the Kleptocrats are intentionally destroying everything (read up about Musk's mommy's love affair with China... yikes) In many ways they already are! Their their blatant disregard for due process and their contempt for Congress's power of the purse makes it's hard to argue these folks are into that dusty old rag The Constitution... But you could argue they are not doing these things for the specific, goal or wrecking the economy... but if they ARE... well... it's been nice knowing ya... hang on to your hats and... check please.
