Koinobori are large flags shaped like carp that are displayed on Children's Day (May 5th). The carp is a strong fish that is said to swim up waterfalls and turn into a dragon, symbolizing the wish for children to grow strong and healthy.
Koinobori are usually hung outside on a pole and flutter in the wind, looking like the carp are swimming. They are traditionally displayed to celebrate the growth of boys, but nowadays, both boys and girls are often celebrated with koinobori.
Let's celebrate together, whether you're a boy or a girl!
