Four More Years! Four More Years!
Added 2020-05-16 15:35:13 +0000 UTCGood morning. Seffay to you.
Would you believe I assembled an Ikea bookshelf all by myself last night, without having to disassemble and restart from scratch because one piece was put in backwards??? It's all part of our Official Office Hours Studio Overhaul, brought to you by YOU! happening next week. We're going to get some real cameras, some real lights, and clean up the garage a bit for camera - sorry, you won't be gazing at my practical but obnoxious wall of guitars anymore. We'll launch a Best Of compilation from the 8 hour marathon to WOHL to run next week (too much stuff) while we test our new system and make sure it's up to the extremely high technical standards you Office Hours Heads demand!
Speaking of, who's been listening since day one? I realized that last Sunday was the 4 year anniversary! Ooof it's been a long and winding road of headaches, Skype bings, Discord anyone? Skype bongs, trolls, lagging streams... But it's all been worth it. It's still so fun and a highlight of my week! Thanks for sticking with us!
I was so happy to have Robert Popper call in as one of my favorite all time characters Robin Cooper. If you enjoyed that segment and have not read the Timewaster Letters - oh my God are you in for a treat! https://www.amazon.com/Timewaster-Letters-Robin-Cooper/dp/1843171694
It's one of those rare books that will have you cry/laughing on nearly every page. I've known Robert and his Look Around You partner Peter Serafinowicz since the early days of Tom Goes To The Mayor. Our old agent set me and Eric up on a blind lunch date of sorts... We were fans of Look Around You and they were in town taking meetings... We hit it off and kept in touch. But a few years later Robert was in LA writing on South Park and we ended up spending more time together. We spent one evening making prank phone calls... It was great having Jason Dill on as well. When we return to normal maybe I'll don several layers of padding and protection and try and do a 90 with him. Billy West is the KING. It was a bit of a slow burn but I liked it.
And Jenny Lewis??? Her guitar got smashed a bit with Zoom's annoying noise reduction (that's my guess as to what happened) but her voice is so great and that song is so classic - I think it worked just fine.
By the way here's the book me and producer Matt recommended: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/247000.The_Mezzanine
My weekend movie recc is Orson Welles' F is For Fake! I've seen it a bunch but watched it again last night, as I discovered to my horror that my wife had never seen it. It feels like it was made YESTERDAY. It's so great.
Also there's this kinda boring but lovely doc on Scorsese making The Departed that's on Vimeo. It really really made my heart hurt for working on a set - I don't care if it's a commercial or a bit part in a small movie or my own TV stuff... there's still something so fun and exciting about being on a set. It's like camp or temporarily joining the circus! https://vimeo.com/417645977
OK! Now to fill the rest of my day somehow. Hey any guests you guys are craving? We've got some BIG ones lined up for when we're back but always interested to hear if you have suggestions or folks you think would gel well.
All the BEST! -t
PS. Here's a little tune I wrote for my wife for our 10 year wedding anniversary! It's no "Oh Yoko!" but I like it.
