She stopped and turned. A man stood ten feet away in jeans and a worn sports jacket. For a moment, she didn’t recognize him and then it clicked.

“Ford,” she whispered.

The polished heir to the Baldwin fortune was almost unrecognizable. His short cropped blond hair was now shoulder length. He had a wild beard and his cobalt eyes stood out starkly on his tanned face.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I need to talk to you,” he said. “It’s urgent.”

She felt a trickle of unease. She hadn’t seen him in seven years. When she tried to call him to break off their engagement, he didn’t answer his phone. He had already been told about her affair and wanted nothing more to do with her. Seeing him now was like seeing a ghost. It was him and yet… not. He had been the friendliest of the Baldwin’s. The man staring back at her held no resemblance to the sweet, affable man who’d once been her fiancé. If she hadn’t recognized him, she would have hightailed it to the locker room and called security.

“Can we meet somewhere else? I don’t think now’s the best time…” She trailed off because he was already shaking his head.

“I don’t think us being seen in public will make things better.”

“What things?”

He fixed those familiar blue eyes on her. “I need to talk to you about Roth.”
