His youngest daughter was… unique. Despite losing her mother at such a young age, Jasmine retained far too much of Elena’s toxic traits for his peace of mind. Her absentmindedness, overt friendliness, compassion, and impulsiveness wouldn’t get her anywhere in his arena. But he been blind to the traits she inherited from him. Her bull-headed determination to finish her degree and make her marriage work caused their estrangement to go on for years instead of the handful of months he predicted. She was defiant, vulnerable, naive, and too brave for her own good. When he looked across the table at her today, it was the first time he saw Jasmine as her own person. She was an alarming mix of both of them. If it had been up to him, he would have squashed her more undesirable traits, but they were far too ingrained. But he wasn’t displeased. Jasmine had more of him than Elena. That’s all that mattered.
