I really enjoy this episode, mainly I like how the nightmares are used as ways to get into the hearts of the main characters, Buffy’s really makes her so much more human. It helps remind you that behind her strong demeanor is a teenager with insecurities, it’s often interpreted that being the slayer is a metaphor for leaving behind her childhood and going into adult hood. That’s why you see her wrestling with the burden of that and how she think it affects others around her through the season. I also like how dark this episode was. Again I like the concepts of this more than it’s execution but it was a nice one overrall.
Yeah so happy you got the dvd’s because there are certain episodes later on the hd completely ruins the original intent behind it. these people who made that remaster need to understand the original was made with the intent of what the creator was trying to do visually weather it be with the dark blacks, shadowing, atmosphere, and using the negative space to mask the flaws. they literally strip a lot of that out. Glad you compared them because then you can really understand just how bad it is xD it’s so bad..
I’m so excited only two more episodes left I’m itching to see what you think! And of course get into the real meat of buffy with season 2 😭

Oh my nightmare would definitely be giant spiders..... I'm so arachnophobic it's not even funny. Had to go on a fieldtrip once when I was younger, and we went to a vivarium (reptiles and spiders) and there was a presentation when a guy took one of the tarantulas out and came close while he had it on his hand.... I scurried all the way to the back of the group as far as possible... still have nightmares of that day... Also giant spiders falling from the sky and the trees with huge cobwebs pictures that I saw once online... One thing for sure, I could never go to Australia....
Also clowns terrify me too... It's again because of a childhood memory. We went to a circus and one of the clowns asked for volonteers, he took my mom and I didn't see her again until after the show was over. I was really young and I believed my mom wouldn't come back. I was so scared and since that day, clows have terrified me (especially in circus). I don't mind them on tv or movies though, but I can't watch anything like It, that's just a big no for me lol. And the clown in this episode is really creepy, especially the laughter...
The episode isn't really strong but it still made an impression on me the first time I watched it. I liked the concept of it. And in the end, it's awful what happened to the kid just for not catcing a ball during a game...
Some of the nightmares were quite funny, like Giles not able to read, I did not expect that one.
Loved that you thought Giles was flirting with Ms Calendar, now that would have been a great scene :D
You thinking the kid was the annointed one was funny too. But to be fair, they look really similar. The annointed one is younger though.
I so agree, the dvd is definitely better. With the remastered version, there are actual night scenes that look like day because the brightness is too high, which doesn't make sense when you have a scene with a vampire (there's one scene in particular in s3 that comes to mind just thinking about that lol).
So glad you made that purchase :D
I'm lucky, I used to watch the episodes on TV back when they aired in France so I didn't have to suffer through the remastered mess on my first watch of the show.
The scene with Buffy's nightmare about her father is really sad... I love moments like these when you're reminded that Buffy is still so young, despite all the super strength and big mission, she's just a kid.
Again, Sarah Michelle's acting was really good in that scene.
And then we have allso the fear of the Master. It's quite terrifying that because of Buffy's fear, he could get free so easily. The nightmare world is terrifying.
Good job with the jumpscares this episode :) you're getting good at this :)
