She'd killed many terrible foes to get this far into the catacombs, but nothing could have prepared her for the attack of the Witch's ghost. Sonja's sword had penetrated her defenses and her body, to no avail. The ghost had simply passed through her and her body had gone numb, her muscles refusing to obey her command.
As she slipped to her knees and felt the icy touch of the ghost as it pulled her head back, thinking how unfair it was that she seemed immaterial or corporeal as convenient. Then the jagged steel blade was opening her throat, and the darkness quickly clouded over her eyes...
