Episode 551: Retro Indies at BitSummit ’23

Jeremy: Just a quick heads-up before you begin listening to this week's episode—there's a lot of background noise this time around, and that's because Diamond and I recorded this on the spot. We literally left the convention center as BitSummit closed its doors and immediately began recounting all the cool stuff we saw while said stuff was still fresh in our minds. That means there's a lot of street noise and, later, café noise, but sometimes you gotta strike while the iron's hot. There's also a change in audio quality since one of our portable mics permanently died about 15 minutes into the show. But no matter; neither noisy traffic, defective equipment, questionable cover songs, a terrible espresso drink that tasted like sick, nor the body-melting heat of a Kansai summer sun could deter us from completing our mission to talk about new games that feel authentically old!

Also this episode: A brief on-the-spot interview with voice actor and game designer Jörg Tittel. It's quite a random grab bag of material and circumstances, but that's what happens when Retronauts embraces the moment rather than dwelling in the past.

Edits by Greg Leahy and art by Greg Melo.

Personally, as a Virginian living in Cali, I enjoyed hearing the cicadas.

Yeah the audio was fine. I appreciated the vibes of this episode. It shows that Retronauts can be just as successful when it's off-the-cuff as it is when it's thoughtfully planned and painstakingly researched.
