Retronauts Episode 231: Kemco-Seika

I think this is the last remnant of our Midwest Gaming Classic trip. We've talked about Game Boy, Virtual Boy, and uhhh... Game Boy? But also, I chatted with Anthony Schwader about Kemco-Seika, by his request, which it turns out he deeply regretted once we got into the topic. Not that Kemco's games were all bad, but the bulk of their lineup didn't live up to the standards of the games people remember them fondly for. Ah well!

Desciption: Jeremy Parish and Anthony Schwader look back at the checkered history of publisher Kemco-Seika—from iffy original works to beloved conversions of computer classics. And lots of Crazy Castles.

My brothers and I rarely had a chance to rent NES games from Blockbuster; they were pricier at $5 but we would have the game for 5 WHOLE DAYS. I had the rare chance to pick a Blockbuster rental over the summer. I picked Superman for NES. The experience of being disappointed and trying to understand just how to play is pure nostalgia. Great episode!

Rescue Embassy Mission was one my dad got back in the day and we both actually really liked it! I didn’t mind it being fairly short because it was also really fun to go back through and try to improve on (getting all your snipers to their posts is a struggle).

Very good ep, the Top Gear series are the only other thing I would've mentioned but they might warrant a full ep of their own. I have a ton of memories of Spy vs Spy, Crazy Castle, and Drakkhen and remember them all fondly in spite of their obvious flaws.

Love those Macventure games. Deja Vu 2 actually did release in a double pack with the first game on GameBoy Color. I remember being so excited to see it come to GameBoy Color.
