This isn't strictly a retro topic this week, but it definitely intersects with the things (and some of the games!) we cover on Retronauts. As it happens, my house is just down the highway from the offices of Limited Run Games. So I recently imposed on the guys who run the company — Josh Fairhurst and Douglas Bogart — to allow me to crash their offices and talk for an hour and a half about their efforts to preserve games on physical media — including classics and future classics (and a few never-to-be classics) alike. With games increasingly appearing in digital formats only, LRG fills a valuable niche. True, the limited nature of their releases means that not everyone can own a physical copy of the titles they publish, but a major motivating factor for the company is the drive to make sure they can help digital games live on for historians and archivists long after they've been delisted from online storefronts. It's too late for WiiWare, but LRG's efforts guarantee that many more contemporary games will never be completely lost to the ether. — Jeremy
