Micro 74: Metroid II & Samus Returns

We're not very good with this whole "Retronauts Micro" thing, huh? They've gone from being about 10 minutes long to about an hour and 10 minutes long — 1:12:00 in this case. I know, it must be dreadful to get more listening material than you originally signed up for. We'll work on this in the future.

Dumb jokes aside, this episode serves as a corollary to last week's Metroidvania episode. I think you'll find it a more focused discussion, as we center our talk entirely around Metroid II and its new (-ish) remake, Samus Returns. It was supposed to be a 30-minute sidebar, but, well, that didn't happen. Hopefully this episode doesn't overstay its welcome…

Description: Words no longer have any meaning as Jeremy, Benj, and Chris record a so-called Micro episode that last more than an hour. But then, there's a lot to say about Metroid II and its remake, Samus Returns.

Yep, these are really great, thoughtful episodes. As a side note, playing the gameboy Ducktales moon theme makes baby Jesus cry (and me too). It's all good though, playing this version (<a href="https://youtu.be/y63imKwhzTw)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/y63imKwhzTw)</a> helped ease the pain.

personally i love the non micro micro eps. thanks.

Christopher Hyde

I love the long episodes, something to listen to at work

Scott Rothman

Great episode! Thanks guys!

I actually would prefer shorter episodes. It's really hard for me to find the time for over an hour of listening, but 10-30 minutes is fine. It's the difference between having the time to play Chrono Trigger vs Chrono Cross.

Marcus Drakken

Why not both?

Jeremy Parish

Yeah, I was being ironic! Thanks though.

It was interesting to hear your all’s take on the remake. I gave Metroid Samus Returns about 12 hrs and just had no desire to continue, after multiple attempts. Just... not fun. I ended up trading it in for $27 towards Super Mario Odyssey, which is pure, unadulterated joy.

God...I'm sick of all this extra content that meets more than what we expected---is what no one said ever.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we really don't mind getting extra long micro episodes. The more Retronauts, the better.

Starting to wonder if shipping gin to North Carolina might be a more cost-effective way to get more new content than Patreon.
