Something a bit different this week!
I had the good fortune to visit with Tetsuya Mizuguchi at Enhance Games last time I visited Tokyo, and he was totally open to the idea of turning the conversation into a podcast. The result is a great listen, despite the slightly janky on-site audio quality (his favorite interpreter was out of town that day and had to Skype in). I credit Mr. Mizuguchi entirely for the excellence of the interview; he's the kind of person who will spin thoughtful, unexpected responses out of any question. I'm sure he's fielded questions about Space Channel 5 and Rez ad nauseum, but he gamely provided meaningful commentary about their origins all the same.
My dream is to have many more episodes like this — developer interviews and the like — in the future, so I definitely hope you'll find the results of this effort worth pursuing.
Then, the back half of the episode sees our regular bloggers join in: Kishi to discuss Metal Gear's 30th anniversary, and Kim Justice to rave about Fire Pro Wrestling World.
Please, friends, enjoy. — Jeremy
Episode description: Jeremy speaks with legendary developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi on his start in games, the genesis of Space Channel 5 and Rez, and face-mounted Game Gears. Later, Kishi and Kim Justice join to discuss Metal Gear's anniversary and Fire Pro World, respectively.
