Retronauts Micro Episode 7 - early access

Hi everyone, sorry for the tardiness with this one... and for the iffy sound quality. Both issues can be chalked up to the fact that I temporarily find myself out of my normal recording environment, which made it difficult for me to trouble-shoot the recording setup and get in some recording time. This episode of Retronauts Micro is another small experiment — an audio adaptation of an essay I wrote a few years ago for GameSpite Journal 11, in which I gave a number of games with which I'd had rocky relationships a second chance. Including Xenogears! I came away with newfound respect for the game, but also a clearer understanding of why I found it so frustrating at the time. I doubt I'll take this approach very often, but it seemed worth a shot. Hopefully you'll enjoy the episode regardless... and if not, well, Bob will be back next week. — Jeremy

This was incredibly insightful to a game I had no hope of comprehending when it first came out. I rented it due to the giant robot RPG aspect, but am kinda glad I never got that far if the story goes that far into the realm of Evangelion. Great episode!

I enjoyed this episode. I wouldn't say that I would like all of them to be that way, but it felt kind of like attending an academic lecture... a nice change of pace. It's funny, because I actually really like Xenogears, despite pretty much agreeing with all of the flaws you pointed out. It certainly represents the excess of the late '90s, but I always have felt that Final Fantasy VIII is even more representative of that excess than Xenogears. It was a better paced game, though. Still, I'd rather play an ambitious failure like either of those titles than a conservative outing any day. I'd argue Takahashi finally got it right with Xenoblade Chronicles, and if Xenogears and Xenosaga are what it took for him to get there, all the better. And you're right: The less said about Chu-Chu, the better...

That artwork is hilarious and perfect. Can't wait to hear the episode! I'm really excited, as I really enjoyed Xenogears at the time and was always bummed that the Retronauts crew generally seemed down on it... but it's also understandable, given some of its glaring flaws.

So that's what Xenogears was about? Huh.

Awesome...I was thinking my money didn't go through for a minute LOL.
