Simple Face Tutorial

Patreon reward for Deer :D Thought I'd show this one a bit early so I could do a write up for it. It's a long write up but feel free to have a read if ya'll would like more explanation.

The point of this tut was to be a very simple process, starting with basic shapes. I used to be huge on those step by step drawing books when I was just starting out so this sort of dealio helps me out a ton. 

1. Basic circle. This could be the hardest part for some so don't worry if your circle is potato shaped. Not all heads are perfectly round + the sketch phase is meant to be messy! Add some crosshairs to set up the facial structure.

2. Eyesss. Again don't worry about perfect ovals/circles/squares/whatever eye shape. This is just to help you know where they go on the face. I typically put them on or above the horizontal crosshair.

3. This dude is a canine so snouts appear like squares or rectangles depending how long you'd like the face. I connect the top line of the snout to the middle of the crosshair.

4. Ears. Just simple triangles will do. You can play with the angle of the triangles to make different emotions like how dogs will lay their ears flat when upset.

5. Side scruff for the face. More triangles that can jut out at any angle you feel is right. Depending on the angle, you can totally change the shape of the face.

6. Now we're getting onto the details. Added some curves to the ears to give them more shape. A little triangle for the nose and some smaller ovals in the eyes. I also added little notches on the cheek scruffs for fluff. Notice how we're still using very simple lines and shapes.

7. Simple line for the mouth (I like to add dimples to the end of them personally). And some squiggles in the ears for fluff.

8. Added some hair fluff and sly eyes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

9. And finally line art. The sketch acts like the building blocks for the shape overall, then just trace over as much as you like and add any final details :D
