(Genuinely forgot GBC is due today haha I'll provide the real artsy update soon, promise!)
Today's recommendation is,
π€ HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Danielewski
The peak example of immersive / gamified book, because no matter how you choose to read it (and you will have to make choices), you will have to engage with it physically. One side effect is that once you read it you'll be recognising other authors' attempts to "entertain" you in the similar typographical way, and it just won't match your by then refined standards (much like Dan Chaon's low effort endeavours in Ill Will from the last recommendation... that book made me wince so hard I actually double-checked if he wasn't a "YA" writer π₯΄).
It'd be a monumental task--although not completely impossible--to convert HOL into an audio or an ebook. So, in liu of you hunting for the printed version, watch some movies in the same spirit! All released in 2020, must've been something in the air:
π€ RELIC
π€ The NIGHT HOUSE
π€ YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT
And that's that! That's be the last installment to the GBC experiment. ππ It was fun to share the thoughts but I hate the scrolling when I need to edit MIDDLE / TOP tier posts. Maybe I should move the book club section to Discord, let me know!
