2024-11-09 23:21:56 +0000 UTCsince the hatred twilight received when it was coming out was mostly based in misogyny people really wanted it to be 'woke' and pro feminist to bring it back and make it a really relevant series again and in doing that we ended up circling back to a very white feminist way of consuming shit where as long as its uplifting white women a media will be deemed moral and 'politically correct'... sorry this is such a ramble but i think about twilight all the time for this reason... wld love to hear ur opinions on this if it resonates w y'all since you always have some funny shit to say about stephenie meyer and mormonism

2024-09-10 00:00:39 +0000 UTCim sure theres plenty of other factors that triggered this but i rly feel like the rise of 'conservatism is cool' is tied to the sudden resurgence of twilight that came around 2020/beginning of covid when a lot of people latched onto it as some kind of anti cringe culture and 'connecting with your inner child' shit (especially for ppl who were 12-16yo white girls at the time it came out) and since twilight is so blatantly racist in so many ways a lot of people just shut off their critical thinking when it came to spotting and critiquing racism in media

People putting them at the bottom of their list because “dum dum lady didn’t run sideways lol” like.. is there literally not so much else to be pondering over here?

It would be super interesting to hear y’all’s opinions on movies like bird box, smile, even hereditary, etc. where the evil force is more nebulous and the films focus more on the human reaction to them.

I enjoyed the film for the scfi and some really cool shots but I agree the plot was not great and I disliked how they treated Andy character especially for him being a black actor. And what i thought was really strange is that for Andy to be seen as "intelligent and usefull" he has to have a another synth (white guy) brain to be put into him. Which might not be what the film intended to do but that's what it conveyed to me.
