Superman II

Miraculously freed from eternal orbit, the two friends (and Ben) from NY and nowhere else descend to the Check Republic, for the ultimate commentary on Richard Lester’s* (Richard Donner’s) 1981 film Superman II.

Topics include: BC’s cold open era, Lobot head, Superman’s rogues gallery, Mister Griffzptlk vibes, kitschy hotels, David’s fortress of solitude and more.

Note: There is a disc error a few minutes in and we need to restart. We give a timecode for the restart.

Film starts at 10:37.

Comments

Just because it's not clear anywhere: they are in fact watching the theatrical cut

Malcolm

“What would you do if there was a sexy moon woman?” I would schtup her, and while doing so I would announce "this is one small schtup for man, but one giant lay for mankind".

TimeGentleman

Great film, but would seem a weird thing to bring up.

Paul Chandler

My favourite part was just hearing how much Ben was enjoying the movie . I love Superman 2 so much .

Pete Dennis

Is this the Donner Cut?

Daniel

Was fully expecting David to pitch Griff on Toy Man during the Superman Rogues Gallery conversation.

Jackson Bishop

I was a little disappointed they didn’t bring up Parasite when they were going through his rogues gallery.

Kyle

100% agree with David on Lane Smith being the definitive Perry White performance.

Carol

Favorite Terence Stamp mod pretty boy fact - he and Julie Christie are the "Terry meets Julie" in 'Waterloo Sunset' by the Kinks.

Bairbre

Have never seen a single Superman film and this isn’t inspiring me to do so anytime soon.

My dad worked on a sci-fi epic with Terence Stamp that has since been collectively disappeared for being Not A Real Movie. My dad is also the kind of dad to (not purposefully) one up his kids in coolness whenever they're talking to him about anything. For instance, when I decided it was time to get into the Velvet Underground in college my dad was there to tell me about his buddy who dated Nico. All to say, when I came out to my dad as bisexual one of the first things he said to me was "people thought me and Stamp were a thing for a while." Love you, dad.
