It’s ELMORE LEONARD vs. PHILIP K DICK.
For LEONARD, we’d cover his 4 famous 90s crime movies (yeah, we know “Be Cool” is from the 2000s, but it’s a direct sequel):
- Get Shorty (1995)
- Jackie Brown (1997)
- Out of Sight (1998)
- Be Cool (2005)
We will not be covering any of his myriad other adaptations…Leonard Westerns could be their own genre.
With PHILIP K. DICK, we’d narrow the field and cover 6 films:
- Blade Runner (1982)
- Paycheck (2003)
- A Scanner Darkly (2006)
- Next (2003)
- The Adjustment Bureau (2011)
- Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
We would not be covering MINORITY REPORT and TOTAL RECALL (1987) because we’ve already covered those on the main feed, and we’d be skipping the TOTAL RECALL remake and some other stinkers because, per David - “ugh, those might kill us”

I was 14 and immediately the worlds vision of the future was changed forever. I watched its echoes ripple for the last 40 years. The only filmography that was higher on my list was Kubrick.

One all-time masterpiece, one pretty great Linklater, and then huboieeee. Only one stinkeroo in the Leonard set, one high masterpiece (JB) and 2 fun ones.

If I had to choose though...PDK would cover more directors that I would love to see covered separately in huge mainfeed series (covering either Blade Runner movies for either Sir Ridley or Denis would be classic blank check material, and a Linklater conversation on rotoscoping with his other works in the mix would be very cool) so I'm going with Elmore bc I don't mind potentially doing another Sonnenfeld at this point (which I feel like means he won't ever be covered on the mainfeed) and covering only one Tarantino or Soderbergh each here
