MARCH MADNESS 2023 - Day 22

Some real BOGUS results yesterday as Bill & Ted fall to Elmore Leonard. Get Shorty moves on to the next round.

Up today - WHAT IS LOVE? goes up against WHAT ARE REPLICANTS?

It’s SNL vs. PHILIP K DICK adaptations.

With SNL, we’d cover 8 movies:

We’ve eliminated the real stinkers from the lineup already. Sorry, we’re not doing It’s Pat.

With PHILIP K. DICK, we’d narrow the field and cover 6 films:

We would not be covering MINORITY REPORT and TOTAL RECALL (1987) because we’ve already covered those on the main feed, and we’d be skipping the TOTAL RECALL remake and some other stinkers because, per David - “ugh, those might kill us”

So, do you like your science fiction of the Conehead variety? Or are you into the harder stuff?

Comments

I didn't see the vote until 4 hours before it closed and I didn't see Day 21's AT ALL. And I refreshed the page regularly to check on it.

Tyler Duggan

I don't think the email went out for this - that might be an issue - fewer voters than usual

Brynndiana Jones

SNL would be winning if they were doing It’s Pat.

The Mayor of Christmas

I can’t believe you mfers >:/

Spam Boi

I’ve been drinking since noon for a work event and was casually ready to vote for my sure fire win, SNL and I’m very upset y’all’s

Justin Sanders

This is also very confusing to me as demographic information, I wouldn’t have thought a group that’s sweeping TMNT or Jelly toward the final four would also shift away from SNL this fast

Rad Rodge

Some of these fools don't even care if they'll one day need lifesaving inventions made of household materials.

Div Whateley

I’m genuinely shocked with this vote total so far. The SNL series would be amazing. Any talk of MacGruber should be praised!

Eric Hazelbaker

I’m interested in this Lonely Island concept though, that deserves a bracket slot

Rad Rodge

Yeah, I mean, Minority Report is such a massively context-rich movie that I’d be happy for them to do a new commentary with a new guest every year

Rad Rodge

Oh hi, I made a list of all the people who (to my memory) haven't really been covered on the podcast before but the Two Friends could go deep on in an SNL series. Think of all the career context! The Blues Brothers: John Belushi James Brown Cab Calloway Aretha Franklin Ray Charles Henry Gibson John Candy Wayne’s World: Penelope Spheeris Mike Myers Dana Carvey Meat Loaf Ed O’Neill Bonnie & Terry Turner Coneheads: Steve Barron Tom Davis Jane Curtin Michelle Burke Sinbad Michael Richards Eddie Griffin Jason Alexander Dave Thomas Larraine Newman Garrett Morris Drew Carey Joey Lauren Adams Julia Sweeney Ellen DeGeneres Tim Meadows Al Franken A Night at the Roxbury: Amy Heckerling Richard Grieco Jennifer Coolidge Michael Clarke Duncan Mark McKinney Chazz Palminteri Superstar: Bruce McCulloch Harland Williams Glynis Johns Tom Green The Ladies Man: Andrew Steele Reginald Hudlin Karyn Parsons Tiffani Thiessen Lee Evans John Witherspoon Kevin McDonald Chris Parnell MacGruber: Jorma Taccone & The Lonely Island WWE Wrestlers Brandon Trost Will Forte Ryan Phillippe Maya Rudolph Powers Boothe Marielle Heller

Rob Moden

yeah, but there isn't that much chance of getting Ridley, Linklater, or Villeneuve anytime soon. There are so many other directors to cover. This is nice way to get to talk a little about directors that are too "obvious" or long for the main series, imo.

Kevin Sprague

Philip K Dick films listed include some films they should be covered in a miniseries. SNL movies fit better with the commentary

Austyn Banks

They knew that the people who get emails would vote SNL, and didn't want the vote to go that way. (This isn't why any of this happened, obviously, but it is crazy that this has less than half the votes as other match-ups, which may or may not make a difference.)

Holden Martinson

I can’t let SNL go down like this!

Anthony Regina

Hot Rod isn’t based on an SNL sketch though. Sure it’s written, produced, directed by and starring SNL alums, but so are Mean Girls, and Tommy Boy.

eric english

kinda hurts there's no Hot rod on here, but hopefully that means a Lonely Island series in the future

Matt Walker

I swear this should just be the final bracket, I'd rather either of these before most of any of the others.

Bailey Proper

I’m voting for SNL but the people demand a Pat episode. We need Ben’s thoughts on Ween

Rosemarie

I think A Scanner Darkly is the best encapsulation of Dick's work while also a great movie.

Hunter Stewart

SNL cuz there’s no good reason why you can’t do Minority Report again. Could’ve had Sean Fennessey or Jamelle Bouie or someone. Joanna’s was great, have her back and y’all analyze it post-Maverick/Fablemans!

Tyler Duggan

My local Alamo played a scanner darkly two nights ago and it was glorious. So much to talk about from the two friends. Highly recommend

Kevin Love Hewitt

I agree with Blake. I did vote SNL, but I'd rather Roxbury or Superstar were replaced with It's Pat. It's Pat might be the best SNL movie if only because it's the only one to feature Ween.

Devin

Would have voted for SNL with It’s Pat. It aged very interestingly.

Blake Shafer

I hate that I had to choose between these two. No matter what, a part of me feels defeated today. On the other hand... a huge part of me will be super stoked!! Here. We. Go!!

Jordan Gibson

Which SNL films are on the list? Bc Stuart Saves His Family is pretty good, probably the best outside of Blues Brothers

Bob Lemmon

voted for snl when i saw no Its Pat.

Johannes Wiberg

voted for snl before i saw no Its Pat.

Matthew Kahl

Agreed!

Evan

Do all of the SNL movies or none of them is what I say. Bring the Dick!

Evan

I Love Dick (teehee) but the SNL run has a better narrative built in to discuss

Rory Dunn

I don't like to vote for episodes that could be part of a main feed series, and Dick has a few of those. But let's face it, neither of these are winning.

HappyCroc

DICK! DICK! DICK!

longhornsteve

Coneheads>Dickheads

Matthew Sherry

Dickheads unite!!!

Eggnog The Space Cadet

SNL is a fun idea for a commentary miniseries, but once again, y'all have ruined it by omitting it's pat, stuart saves his family, and blues brothers 2000. cover the whole franchise or bust! those 3 stinkers would be just as fun as the rest!

Marzi Margo

A tough one, but I think snl would be so fun. Again it doesn’t matter though because Jelly is taking the crown.

Louis Frey

We need Ben to promote Coneheadcore

Jeremy Frank

Next is such a dumb movie and I want to hear that episode

Cameron

PARTY ON PEOPLE

Sofia Car

Schwing!

TV's Kevin Lanigan

I was probably going to pick PKD anyways, but no It's Pat makes it a lot easier for me

Adam Grzegorczyk

Begging y'all for Dick right now.

Henry McKenzie

C'mon y'all we got get that DICK!!!

Sam A. Sipe

Both of these options, y'all are disappointing me by leaving stuff out. It's only a couple more SNL movies! Stinkers can be fun! And I'd really be intrigued by a Total Recall remake episode, in part because you've already covered the original, so the contrast would be interesting, and David is SUCH a Colin guy - I feel like it's worth covering the movies where he doesn't really work. You're doing a Men in Black International episode, that didn't kill you....i think. Voted PKD anyways, the idea of that miniseries excites me even with the stuff you're leaving out.

Zak Goldberger

Give us Minority Report and Total Recall commentaries you cowards! (In I joking voice because I do love you all)

Joshua Ochoa

please add Blues Brothers 2000 to the SNL lineup! i won't be voting for it past this round without it!

Alex Lovendahl
