Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation
Added 2020-09-01 04:18:57 +0000 UTCTravel may be banned but luckily we’ve got access to ROGUE NATION bay-beeeee. Christopher McQuarrie takes the wheel for the 5th installment of Mission: Impossible and locks into what makes Ethan Hunt work. Why try to be a normal guy when he is in fact, the physical manifestation of destiny??? The four friends talk buggy villains, Tom’s escalating chaotic stunts, and why Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa is his perfect match.

2025-06-29 03:44:34 +0000 UTC:Ahem: "Well actually..." Michael David, a Huracánrana (or Hurricanrana) is a straight backflip with the the thighs causing the opponent to roll over forwards. It's often cradled into a pin. The move used in these movies is usually a head scissors takedown or takeover . Occasionally you see the corkscrew takedown, but never a hurricanrana.

2020-09-04 10:29:57 +0000 UTCThe "thigh thing" is called a Huracánrana and is directly lifted from Lucha Libre, or "Free Fight" mexico's style of professional wrestling. It was most likely innovated in the late 40s or early 50s and popularized and named for Huracán Ramirez. Not sure when it started popping up in movies, Black Widow in the Marvel films definitely brought it new prominence, but it's been in active use in professional wrestling of all styles around the world for at least 40-50 years.

2020-09-03 23:11:17 +0000 UTCIncredible episode, so satisfying. I do wish more attention was paid to the actual greatest line of the movie, Ethan’s insanely unhinged, “the Bone Doctor is going to have to BEAT IT OUT OF ME” as cruise is about to give himself an aneurism. But we can’t always get what we want

2020-09-02 20:46:21 +0000 UTCThe texture on Brandt's suit is actually called sharkskin, which is made from weaving two yarns together so it gets that cool cross-hatchy duotone texture!

2020-09-02 19:57:28 +0000 UTCOk I'm not sure, but fairly sure Sonia Blade in the mortal combat movie started the thigh thing...

2020-09-02 16:12:44 +0000 UTCI swear that even though I consider it the high point of the franchise by now anyway, the opera sequence somehow gets better every time I watch this movie.

2020-09-01 20:39:09 +0000 UTCI literally cried when I first saw the trailer for this film because I thought Mission Impossible movies were dead and I had accepted that fact. Then when I saw this in theatres I was very disappointed and so I really hoped that maybe it was because I was overhyped and that watching this again with Griffin's full enthusiasm I'd get something that I was missing the first time around and while I did enjoy many of the elements here, the plane thing is INSANE, the whole opera scene is great, the underwater vault is intense I still have no idea what they're doing pretty much the entire time and that really hurts the movie for me. It's like what's the mission?? What's happening? And so, I have to say, this is still in second to last place in my ranking.

2020-09-01 19:27:28 +0000 UTCThe earliest instance of the "thigh thing" that I can remember is Bridgette Wilson snapping a guy's neck with her legs in Mortal Kombat. That's the same year as Goldeneye, so clearly movies in 1995 realized they had discovered the next big thing in action.

2020-09-01 16:43:28 +0000 UTCI am indeed in the camp that Fallout is better overall, but even if you leave out the Nessun Dorma riffs, the Joe Kraemer score for Rogue Naysh blows away the Fallout score, @ me not, Fallout is a fantastic movie held back a bit by a yell-y okay score

2020-09-01 07:37:18 +0000 UTCI was STOKED to hear Ang mention how great the music is at the opening, the music over the logos in this movie is legit one of my favorite bits of the ENTIRE MOVIE haha, it’s calibrated to quickly amp your excitement all the way up to total desperation for the movie to start
