It isn't big leap to see that the scratch from goose got infected and took a turn for the worse--also he didn't get scratched by a cat, but by a dang alien, why would it heal like a simple scratch? That whole convo felt like a desire to pile on something that didn't deserve it. I like to think that Fury has spent 30 years pretending it was a heroic injury because he's embarrassed by the true story.
