Yeah this is a difficult topic. In reality no AI could develop actual feelings since they are not a living organism. They don't have their own conscious and aren't able to express emotions and feelings themselves. But considering this is fiction, idk how they're gonna handle this. Reminds me of the game "Detroit Become Human" where AI robots that look like actual humans are made to work for humans. Most of them start to develop their own feelings and end up rebelling and protesting against humans.

The ultimate goal of developing this technology in certain circles is to create artificial intelligence and robots that are capable of sentience. Once we achieve that, then the ethical dilemma of what is their place in society kicks in. This series is doing a good job in showing that because of the additional data that was added, Ever9 is gaining self awareness and desires beyond what it may have been programmed for. The inclusion of these functions is designed so that the owner of the device can connect to it, which they may not if it is just a machine. It’s also why ‘breathing’ and ‘blinking’ functions are added - seeing something in a humanoid appearance that doesn’t do these things feels unnatural and so the owners could reject them.

2024-03-04 14:34:44 +0000 UTCThe manga Chobits, written by CLAMP, took that idea of a human falling in love with a robot. Very powerful. At the end, spoiler alert, the human did choose to fall in love with a robot knowing it was a robot. The mangaka wanted to emphasize the point that we have a wrong perception of technology by becomming dependant of it, therefore as voluntary slave of it we tend to justify ourself with wrong argument. (''it's not slavery, it is love....''). I am eager to see how they are going to end this story.
