Loved your explanation, thank you so much for it. 😘

Hi Melanie, the word Ren uses when he talks to the doctor has a wide range. It could be as light as Ren meaning that he nagged Kazuma until he gave in. Or as strong as him holding him down while he screamed. I had already started to reply when I noticed you specifically asked for me. lol. I've gone into a bit more detail in my full comment below.

Yemi 語学者 (BLJapanTaiwan)

When Ren says he forced Kazuma to do it, I think the word comes across a lot stronger in English. The Japanese word is muriyari - muri is impossible, yari is from the verb to do. So the implication is one person said it was impossible, but they were made to do it anyway. That covers a pretty big range. Muriyari could mean anything from, "I literally held a knife to their throat and made them do it," to, "I did not want to come to this party, but my bestie nagged my azz til I gave in." So when Ren says muriyari what he means is that Kazuma did not want to do it, he just did it out of fear that Ren would keep picking up older guys on dating sites. But what all the parent's probably thought was that he held him down and forced him. The reason his Dad kicked him out? It is not explicitly said, but you can kind of tell if you have experience with Japanese society. His Dad is a big name. (They don't say in the show, but he is a doctor who owns a big hospital and Ren is supposed to inherit that hospital. That is part of why Kazuma can't find Ren because he is looking in medical high schools, not art high schools.) Many people like Dad are kind of weird about protecting their name. So, just in case rumours come out, he can't have Ren being a Saotome. But think about this for a second. They never go into detail, but Ren is 14 or 15, a minor in almost every jurisdiction. You can't just legally kick out a minor. So what must be happening is that Ren's Dad must have found some employee or a random poor person named Ishihara and paid him to adopt Ren. Or something like that. Ironically, Dad is still going to need a kid to inherit the hospital, so he probably adopted a new one... They foreshadowed the self harm by zooming in on Ren's black wristband several times. But I think if you don't already know what will happen, you woud probably think that is a fashion accessory and they are actually zooming in on Ren's hand. Culture note... Ren asks if it is a matchmaking interview. There are two kind of unique cultures for getting people together here. 1. Gokon - This is where friends will invite friends who don't know each other on a group date. Recently, some towns and cities also have gokon. I personally love themed Gokon. My old city used to have a giant gokon with coupons for half the restaurants in the city. The North half in summer and the south in winter and free taxis to ride to take you to the restaurants. I've also been on an anime themed one and one themed after a tv show about divers who hunt sea urchins. 2. Omiai. This is the one Ren mentions. Omiai is basically getting two people together based on their qualifications and compatibility. In the first stage, the actual two people don't meet. It is their parents or representatives. They bring a giant picture of the person as well as a profile sheet with things like their job and hobbies. That's why Ren makes that remark, because of the way Kazuma asks two very different, but very likely to be a profile questions. Sorry, that was really long.

I think the problem with Ren's parents is that Ren didn't just say I had sex with Kazuma, he said I forced Kazuma to have sex with me. That is tantamount to rape. 😕 I don't know if he just worded it poorly or if the subtitles were wrong, but if he really said it like that, then it must have been a shame for the parents that their son did something like that. I could imagine that in countries like Japan something like that is a disgrace and that's why they sent him away. Now I could use Yemi's background knowledge.😄

I think this series will go down in BL history as one of the best. It has a quiet intensity like My Beautiful Man.
