There are brain surgeries done in real life that split segments of the brain from others, like a lobotomy for example. Its not done much these days as its rather outdated and barbaric, but in some rare and extreme cases there are still split brain procedures that severe parts of the left and right hemispheres or around the hippocampus to cause a similar effect to what we have with Palm. Recovering from this to small degrees via neurogenesis is possible over a period of time... but this is extreme and would be an example of anime logic, the ant dna perhaps amplified the process. It could also be seen as a failed attempt from Pitou to fully severe the proper segments of the cortex fully. In any case, it is actually possible for the brain to reconnect disconnected neural pathways as it happens everytime you remember something you couldnt before your memory is triggered by a cross referential experience (usually these will be triggered via emotional memory). I choose to interpret this as an extreme example of that, an emotional trigger caused her neural pathways to reconnect, and likely Pitou being new to brain surgery didnt do a very complete job but rather minimum amount of effort. That or its all just typical anime magic
