I think of en as just a super thin blanket version of ren, spreading out the users aura as wide as the user can manage with a harmless bit of aura. How easy it is to see or sense would depend on its density and intent ect. When Zeno and Netero are said to be using en, its completely invisible to us, but implied to be present because of just how thinly and elegantly they are able to spread out their aura while keeping it neutral. Chrollo could sense the en from Zeno ofcourse regardless, any nen user should be able to notice when they are contacted by someones en, though an uneducated very unaware new nen user may not understand what it is. Pitous en is the largest we see to this point but is also highly visable and has the red tint that her ren has, implying its dense and full of her intent (hence why in 109 Meruem expresses annoyance with pitous en always surrounding him ordering her to turn it off or keep it away from him, he couldnt NOT feel it and its ever presence was irritating) I think togashi also gave her en this ability to further liken to her 'catlike' nature and enhanced senses ofc, hence poufs en being weaker, though even darker and more dense notably

2019-12-12 08:21:42 +0000 UTCYeah Nen users can see En, since it's made of aura after all and it's not usually (or maybe can't be) hidden with In. Diego's dead, just a puppet like you said, Pitou has deep control of her puppets considering she can even manipulate their own aura.
