Nen is in this universe 'life energy' and so every living thing has it within them like the force or ki lol. The reason the ants are so strong is each one is a multitude of lifeforms aka life energy in one being basically. The royal guards on a larger scale, and king larger still, hence the aura amounts being so high. Another way Togashi is using nen as a metaphor for irl effort, will, and focus, where you spend it and how you specialize your interests or fail to. In this sense, when you asked about Pitou figuring out what to do with her aura, what sort of power to develop, its the same question you yourself must have asked yourself as we all do... "What should I do with my potential?". Difficult question right? in a certain sense its like that for nen as well. She can kind of invent her power, but it will adhere to rules of nen and it will reflect her personality and her particular will. In a way you could say that how effective a nen ability is depends on how aligned the users will is with the specific interest they have in accomplishing with their will... again could be seen as a poetic metaphor the more you think into it and how nen is used throughout the story.

Every Nen user develops their own Hatsu based on their category and natural inclinations, Killua with his electricity, Hisoka with his Gum, etc. The same way, Pitou as a Specialist, especially one with vast potential, now has to choose a Hatsu that fits her nature and goals. You've got some solid instincts regarding Kite, it would seem safe to assume Kite isn't dead or perhaps can be revived, based on your observations. Keep watching ;-)

I think it's safe for you to assume Kite is in fact dead. The end of 85 literally had his severed head resting in Neferpitou's lap. That is a definitively fatal injury, no anime plot contrivance can get around that without feeling cheap. Pitou is apparently trying to fix him, but it's still unclear what that means exactly. For now, the body is just being kept in ice, presumably so it doesn't start to rot.
