2019-01-20 04:12:48 +0000 UTC(6:35 in the reaction) Kiritsugu couldn't force himself to kill Shirley here, and as a result she ended up infecting the entire island, getting everyone he'd ever known killed. Kiritsugu blamed himself for this, so he decided to make sure he didn't make the same mistake again. That's why he killed his father. And that's what drives a lot of his decisions in the future. An obsession with preventing tragedies like this one by using the ruthless, utilitarian methods that, had he been able to use on Shirley, could've saved his town.
