Urban Legends, myths, tall tales, and stories where something I hunted in my youth as I tried to discover who I was. Like a hound on a trail, I followed the stories. There is a certainty in looking for your self by looking for something else. I was (and in some ways remain) like that. The stories we tell ourselves are one of the methods in which we cope, how we pass down lessons learned, and how we hope to save someone the pain of walking a difficult path. Some stories are told to entertain. Some told as cautionary tales. Some are meant to frighten us. The latter always attracted me the most. Fear is one of the most primal things that drive us and is yet so multifaceted: it protects us. It gives us strength. It debilitates us. It does many things. That's why we seek out fear - to test ourselves against it. We may tell ourselves any number of reasons why we do it, but almost without exception the reason is we want to know that we are strong against that which we fear...but sometimes, that's not always the case. Sometimes the monsters we throw ourselves against to test our mettle only end up destroying us. Basically, sometimes the monsters win. By request, I present some of the most terrifying terror to ever come from the Internet: the Slender Man. Sleep with your lights on gamers, for the night is dark and full of terrors... http://www.ravensnpennies.com/2015/02/triple-threat-slender-man.html#.VOl-7vnF_Cs
