Retro Library update - SteamOS

Hello everyone!

I've added a new feature, now when you launch a game from your Retro Library a Steam entry will be created in your home so you can keep playing that game later without having to enter your Retro Library again.

This will only happen with the last launched game, please tell me if it would be interesting to keep all launched games in your Home and not only the last one.

I think this is a really neat feature that gets us closer to having a really automated console like experience for retro gaming. It gives us the simplicity and cleanliness of EmulationStation with the integration of SteamRomManager but without the hassle of configuration.

To get the latest release open EmuDeck and reinstall Retro Library to get this update.

PS: Windows port coming soon!

Or at least an option to select it...

DAVID EVANS

I freaking love this. It makes it feel like Steam now offers emulation. lol

David Knight

this is still an early beta, a lot of stuff will improve / change as I keep developing it

EmuDeck

I have a big pile of stuff to check on bazzite, not gonna lie

EmuDeck

EmuDeck app, SteamOS only

EmuDeck

I have only generating database please be patient and nothing on my rog ally with bazzite :)

Alexandre JACQ

The idea is good, yes, but now I have the case when I start a game, let's say "Donkey Kong Country", the artwork is missing on the home screen, if I set it manually with SteamGridDB, and then start another game via RetroLibrary, the artwork of Donkey Kong Country remains

Fabian Zettl

Maybe having an option in the future to set “Last game” “last 3 games” “every game launched” would fit most use cases

Display Name

Could someone please explain how to add this. I’ve tried all day and it’s not on the store.

Arthur E. Levandoski

Still not working on Bazzite OS also RL showing 1.2.0 even after I remove it and install it again

Tifa Lockhart

It’s on the SteamOS release

EmuDeck

I’ll just add a selector from 1 to 10

EmuDeck

There’s no windows version available yet, it will be soon though

EmuDeck

1 you can delete the plugin from the Decky settings 2 that’s normal 3 I agree, I’ll add it in the future 4 that’s should be unrelated, I’ll take a look though

EmuDeck

Still not sure where this retro library thing can be acquired from, there's no documentation of it.

Cameron Jones

I don’t really want ally the games I play from retro library to show up in steam. It’s more of a “play last emulator game” shortcut for me. But having the option of a couple at a time would be nice.

Shane Keulen

How do the normal library games currently do it? It is all recent games, right? What's the downside of doing it the same way?

Zain Ajam

- how to turn off retro library after having turned it off? If I change my mind about using retro library - opening a game from retro library launches the game immediately instead of first showing the pre launch screen - need a favorites tab in the retro library - I noticed that if I fix artwork, then the game gets saved in my normal library under non-steam games

Zain Ajam

I like having all games

Dylan Kroger

Thank you btw even if it's just a removal option for entries it helps keep up the awesome work :)

Jacob Pettry

See thats why I typically have no complaints you guys are already planning lol

Jacob Pettry

WOW! I look forward to test It as soon as I'm back home!

Antonio De Nardis

I try to install Retro Library under windows. It asks me for a Sudo password. Which I never sat. Is there default password for that. However when I click Install Retro Library a popup appears “Success! Retro Library Installed” but in Steam Big Picture mode nothing changes. Roms are still mixed up. Can somebody help?

Marco Streit

Yeah, that’s planned for the future

EmuDeck

Wouldn't be a problem for me personally.

Met

Also wondering how to get the RetroLibrary plugin, TY

Arthur E. Levandoski

May I suggest an implementation of a filtering or something that may take I have a bunch of duplicate entries when it comes to CD based games that have Bin/Cue/M3U so we can only have 1 entry?

Jacob Pettry

good idea!

EmuDeck

Oh. Is this readily available? Haven't heard of it until now

Zain Ajam

I would like to have the last 5 or 10 games played as an option. Not all games as it would get cluttered.

WILLIAM FIELD

Maybe somewhere that lists them, with easy check boxes to remove them? I think that would be the perfect solution.

Shea Thaddeus-Patrick Layton

This is obviously more work but. What about a “number of recently played games to keep in steam” slider where I can put 1 or 10

Shane Keulen

You are able to fix the artwork, but when searching for the game, it seems to always pick the incorrect game. I’m suggesting that once you search, it gives you multiple games to pick from before letting you pick new artwork.

Drew Kellenberger

this is already implemented, just press X when a game is highlighted

EmuDeck

what if you end up with 100? and have to manually delete them?

EmuDeck

Nope. RetroLibrary is a Decky plugin.

EmuDeck

When you say "retro library", do you mean esde? Does this mean that if I play something on esde then after playing it, an entry gets created on the home row of steam big picture?

Zain Ajam

Let us keep all launched games please!

Met

Would you be able to, when searching for the game to scrape artwork for, add a feature where you can choose from multiple options? Sometimes when scraping, games share a name and it picks the wrong game or it just automatically chooses the wrong game?
