Poll for Windows users

Hi, quick question, do you use Steam in Big Picture Mode or just regular Steam? Thinking about porting some stuff depending on the answer :)

Comments

On the system I would use EmuDeck on I use big picture. Desktop otherwise. I usually use ES-DE as a frontend though and would just use big picture to download games.

polocatfan

I have 1 question how could i make my phone completely like some emudeck machine?

Rihardslajerxxl Hards

Big picture if I'm in my couch. Steam Desktop if I'm sitting at my PC.

J S

Both depending on where I'm playing

Eric Lengyel

Depends on desk or TV setup

Stomat

Tv big picture, ROG ally big picture and PC normal mode

Mic Smith

playnite on full screen

Ivan Adame

Desktop but I'm working on a Big Picture setup pretty soon.

Trent Gray

I'd love to use big picture mode but 1. I don't have my controller connected all the time and 2. Xbox controllers have a preset binding to do left & right mouse click so big picture not necessary as I can get into a game faster then loading it up.

CapnCarbine

Both quite a bit. I have two Windows PCs. The one at my desk, I use it in desktop mode. The one attached to the TV in my living room I use almost exclusively in Big Picture mode unless I need to tinker with something.

Mark Kilborn

i mainly game on my asus rog ally 7. so big picture mode/armory crate is my goto mode.

Ron Poppe

I use both. Big picture on my TV and for my kids. Then Steam desktop on my gaming PC. But I'm honestly surprised how much we use big picture these days.

Luke Woods

absolute GOAT

NSKE

On Handled and TV Big Picture, on Computer never Big Picture.

Display Name

Steam Desktop on my Desktop. On Steam Deck. I mainly play in Game Mode. On the topic of Desktop on Windows, is there a way to turn off the black windows/panel that pops up when I launch an EmuDeck shortcut? I transitioned from manually using emulators for the sake of cloud sync.

ZuulGhoul

If on a laptop, just regular Steam Desktop. But if on my LeGo, then Big Picture.

Sam Winotai

Gotcha, thank you!

Roy Hanks

If I were casting Steam onto my TV, I'd use Big Picture mode, but as it is, I've got a huge ultra wide screen monitor so I don't bother. :D

Katherine Ullman

Effectively have never launched big picture mode except by accident.

Steven Rodriguez

Both, honestly.

Ivan Bisbee

Both

Will

i tried the tutorial, but looks like it needs an update. ill keep trying thanks!

NSKE

same

seb

Same here...

DAVID EVANS

Laptop in desktop mode, desktop pc in big picture as it is connected to a tv.

prodigalseams

on a handheld when just playing i prefer big picture however if i need to do some file tinkering or editing engine.ini files to make things run better i prefer desktop mode

Lae

I prefer the Steam Desktop honestly. Use Big Picture rarely.

Miggwilson

I'm planning to make a PC that boots directly into big picture, for tv, I really like the feature please don't remove it, rather enhance it

Printer of time

If I'm at my desk the desktop but on my handheld big picture

Primoboiii

Depends. I have some games I prefer mouse and keyboard so I use desktop. But I also have game that I play with controller and steams api so I use big picture for them.

Nathan VanDerWerff

Big Picture. I have my PC connected to my TV through an HDMI cable, so Big Picure is great to use my PC as a gaming console.

SubZeroPT

Desktop in 99% of the cases. Not super fond of Big Picture mode.

Cripta dos Clássicos

Exclusively big picture mode, literally the reason I got you

René

I voted big picture, but it all depends on case use. If I'm using my PC on my TV or handheld, it's big picture. But if I'm sitting at my desk, it's regular steam.

Rise

it doesnt start with steam just turns on steam at start but ill try

Rihardslajerxxl Hards

i personally use Desktop. however when using steam link for remote play Big picture is a must

SedaSauce

gamescope is linux

EmuDeck

it is :)

EmuDeck

You can do that in Steam, just enable Start on big picture mode in the settings

EmuDeck

I would answer both, I use normal desktop when I'm at the pc, but big picture when I use moonlight/sunshine to play from my pc on my steamdeck for the extra "power"

Thea Nyx Petersen

Big picture on Ayaneo2

Vagner Fernandes

Big Picture on my large screen 4k build, Desktop on my daily driver

Simon H

Big Picture on my Ally, desktop on my PC. That said, I use EmuDeck more on my Ally, even though it's installed on both.

NoizeMaykr

Windows mainly desktop mode, depending on the game, big picture when I’m playing solo games or offline games.

Nier

I use Playnite instead of Steam Big Picture for my PC, if that's useful information at all for you.

Matt Stevons

Is gamescope or handheld mode considered Big Picture?

Roy Hanks

Big Picture Mode on my ROG Ally

Woolly

Big picture since my handheld screen is too small for desktop window navigation. Also great on the couch.

John Smith

This.

Jeremy Kurowski

It Depends which System i use. when i use my Desktop PC i use steam Desktop bc habit. when i use my rog ally i use big picture Mode bc it is easier to use with a controller

rafael pola Henriques

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3u7syZ0m6M :)

EmuDeck

I only use Big Picture when I'm using Moonlight/Sunshine

Matt Novak

I use desktop because i want to find some info or do something and then i HAVE to exit steam and that is not best for me i would like it to have feature just booting steam without closing windows explore.

Rihardslajerxxl Hards

Big Picture on HTPC, but *vast* majority of the time Desktop on Desktop.

Jacksaur

Big Picture

Damian Bushay

Same!

Johnnydement

I only subscribed to used big picture mode by default when my legion go boots 🤣

AztkSmooth

Big Picture in my back living room and Steam Desktop everywhere else. Love Big Picture mode though! Basically turns my system into an Xbox on Roids.

SirLandry Does Gaming

Both, Desktop mode for Desktop, Big Picture mode for HTPC

Bjarte Odin Kvamme

That's exactly my case :)

EmuDeck

Please tell me decky loader is coming to windows! I have transversed many Linux distros and none of them work as well out of the box windows. The only thing windows is missing is decky plugins.

NSKE

Since I play mostly on the ally, I use regular desktop version as I have noticed that big picture increases the TDP

Chris Lockhart

For living room PC and Handheld PC, use big picture. For desktop or laptop computing, use desktop mode

Zain Ajam

I voted Big Picture but I use both depending on the scenario. I use Big Picture with my HTPC in my living room for couch gaming, Legion Go, GPD Win Mini, and sometimes on my laptops. I use regular Steam on my desktops and laptops.

HamFang

I have a pc hooked up to my tv that boots to big picture but I assume that’s an edge case. On my desktop it’s regular steam mode.

PC

I'm the in exactly the same boat as SardineCat above. Never use Big Picture on my desktop, but always on the ROG Ally or streaming to the Steam Link app on my TV.

Kovacs

I voted for Big Picture, but I use it in both modes depending on if I'm sitting at my PC, or I'm in the living room.

Harley Davidson

You stole my comment :). Same for me!

John Richmond

I only use Steam Desktop. When I do want a big picture type interface on my desktop, I typically use Playnite instead since it can access all my libraries not just Steam. But then, I also do that for a desktop interface most of the time unless I'm using Steam for library management or something.

Covarr

It depends. I don't use it all the time. Big picture when docked to a TV, but desktop when in handheld or at a desk. (Legion Go) That being said I still haven't set up EmuDeck on the go. I've been using the steamdeck for emulation.

NovaIsTheBot

Same as SardineCat

Clint Call

Both, just depends on how I'm playing and my mood, honestly!

Stephen Smith

I never use big picture mode, just the game mode on the Steam Deck. On PC it's always regular Desktop Mode

Kvoo

Hard to choose because on desktop i mainly use desktop mode and never use big picture mode. When I use my rog ally I always use big picture mode because it's easier to navigate

SardineCat
