Ok, so Ryujinx is gone, now what?
Added 2024-10-02 12:14:38 +0000 UTCHi, sad news for emulation today, for those of you that haven't heard yet, yesterday Ryujinx decided to make a deal with Nintendo and close the emulator. We are waiting on more details to know if we can use other forks without getting in trouble. Worst case scenario, we would do a Bring your own Ryujinx thing like we do with Yuzu, as long as you provide the emulator we'll take care of everything else.
I'll be reporting more news as soon as I have them

2024-11-05 01:19:46 +0000 UTCYeah you have to Google the latest version of yuzu EA. Not all sites/repositories are super kosher. Be safe out there

2024-10-07 07:18:04 +0000 UTC@Lars: Do you have a link to the fork from the other developer you mentioned? I'm trying to find a trustworthy fork😅

2024-10-06 23:32:27 +0000 UTCHi, actually the best way to play Switch on Steam Deck and Windows is Sudachi, you could put this fork https://github.com/emuplace/sudachi.emuplace.app/releases

2024-10-06 08:57:33 +0000 UTCim going back to yuzu, ryujinx was just more convient at best

2024-10-05 19:32:36 +0000 UTCOne reason I can imagine is, that Switch 2 can play Switch 1 games. If everyone could use an emulator for Switch 1 games, then backwards compatibility would not be a very convincing argument for buying. Also Switch 2 could be hardware wise very similar to the Switch 1, so Switch 1 emulator developers could perhaps reach Switch 2 parity with relative ease.

2024-10-05 10:21:03 +0000 UTCWill it be removed when our emudeck updates? As in I used the initial install of emudeck that installed Ryujinx. Just curious if an emudeck update will remove it.

2024-10-04 22:05:22 +0000 UTCSuzu is just Yuzu with some bug fixes, no major enhancements or new games running... last update was like 6 months ago.
DAVID EVANS
2024-10-04 17:20:30 +0000 UTCNot sure on how well that one is going, last update was like 6 months ago and mostly bug fixes. Still looking for devs..... Not much has changed from when Yuzu was killed off by the big N bully....

2024-10-04 17:19:33 +0000 UTCI still have my working install. Can EmuDeck be made to use a working install for people that have one? That would be legal wouldn't it?
Christopher Blaisdell
2024-10-04 15:55:24 +0000 UTCThere is an alternative called suyu but it requires you to have few additional files.

2024-10-02 21:41:38 +0000 UTCUse Suzu or BYO, or both. But from what I've seen and heard Suzu works great. Just be careful not to get in Nintendo's crosshairs. Do what you think is safest for you and EmuDeck.

2024-10-02 18:47:06 +0000 UTCMy only guess is the emulators have better performance than the Switch 2 is going to be, and they need to sell a bunch at launch.

2024-10-02 17:21:14 +0000 UTCwould be nice to update to the latest version since it was stable enough

2024-10-02 14:49:04 +0000 UTCI'm curious why Nintendo went to war at the end of the switch's life? I even suspect that the existing switch emulator can simulate switch2 with a little modification😂.

2024-10-02 12:45:27 +0000 UTCThe main repo got taken down by gdkchan and another fork by one of the devs became the main one. That dev has archived it, but it and all the forks are still available on there. And unless gdkchan or the devs did anything illegal while developing it like with the Yuzu situation, I don’t think gdkchan has the right to "sell away" the source code to Nintendo, it being a collaborative effort, he could take down the main repo though as he probably was the owner. Emulators are still legal after all, however much Nintendo wish they weren’t.
Lars-Christian Selland
2024-10-02 12:38:06 +0000 UTCthat's what we don't know, but I figure Nintendo also got Ryujinx source code on that agreement.
EmuDeck
2024-10-02 12:29:51 +0000 UTCNothing there says others can’t continue to work on it in comparison to the Yuzu situation where Yuzu is now Nintendo’s property. We’ll see of course, but this isn’t as grim a situation as the one with Yuzu.
Lars-Christian Selland
2024-10-02 12:28:08 +0000 UTCAt least the last early access of yuzu is still working fine
Alaa Mak
2024-10-02 12:27:13 +0000 UTCProbably not, since the main Developer gdkchan got an agreement from Nintendo, that he ends the development of ryujinx and removes the organization as well as all assets he has access to. And since the organization is gone, he probably accepted it...

2024-10-02 12:20:40 +0000 UTCyes, that's our curse of action right now. We'll wait and see. Bring your own emu seems like the best right now
EmuDeck
2024-10-02 12:20:38 +0000 UTCMan... First Yuzu, then having Citra caught in the crossfire, now we don't even have Ryujinx? I just hope we'll be able to find a workaround like we always do.
Nathanial Mothgomery the Third
2024-10-02 12:20:25 +0000 UTCfor Yuzu it's already documented in manage emulators, it will be the same for Ryujinx
EmuDeck
2024-10-02 12:19:28 +0000 UTCThere isn’t a DMCA it seems, so hopefully given time some development will start up again.

2024-10-02 12:19:06 +0000 UTCProbably the best advice

2024-10-02 12:18:56 +0000 UTCBring your own emulator is good but there should be documentation where to put said emulators so emudeck can see said emulator.

2024-10-02 12:18:01 +0000 UTCHonestly… I would hate for Nintendo to have any grounds to go after you. I think for now, just don’t support switch emulation in anyway… things are way to heated right now… and honestly don’t think anyone is going to have a tantrum… and if they do get grumpy… tell them to take out their frustration on Nintendo My 2 cents
