Main channel: See why Lorde's clear CD has so many issues playing

While waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail for the Zenith ZT-1, I decided to take a side quest and figure out why this new clear CD released by the artist Lourde has so many reported issues playing on so many players. After my recent foray into CD players on the second channel, I decided to try this CD on a few players and actually look at the signal coming in off the optical pickup. It was quite enlightening and fun, I really do like playing around with CD players and have really been enjoying the NEC CD-510 after I fixed it up. (I dig more into that as well.)
We will be back with regular repair content soon enough, as it's back on the bench and I have resumed my quest to figure it out.

2025-08-12 00:47:48 +0000 UTCIt would be interesting to look at the "Clear" CD with an infrared camera and compare to pressed and burnt CDs. I bet it's nearly as reflective/opaque in IR. I guess some cameras in low light or night mode do that.
