Mid-2024 News & Updates!

So we've finally crossed through the mid-point of the year. Sohmer and I have had a lot of laughs, more than our fair share of tears, and mostly just kept our nose to the grindstone to keep everything on schedule.

We truly enjoy and love bringing these stories to each and every one of you, and it's the main driver for us pulling 60+ hour weeks for months on end. It's all worth it to see that somebody enjoyed a scene where Shrubley stood tall and strong, or when Komachi was sassy, Hal got a new essence, or Sam got an even bigger greatsword.

But as we're coming up on the one year anniversary of Voidknight's initial release, it's time to take stock and make adjustments as needed.

Nothing's being cancelled, so no reason to fret there, but we are making a few changes.

Initially, I planned this year to have the 3rd Pyresouls, Scars From Tomorrow, released in the latter half of 2024 but after a few issues with both Amazon and a general lack of enthusiasm for Shrubley, that's been pushed back.

Over the last year the Patreon has gone up and down, but mostly stagnated. Compared to a lot of our contemporaries, we were putting out 2-3x the amount of content for the same or less (15 total chapters a week is nothing to sneeze at!) in the hopes that it would help our Patreon grow so we can be less beholden to Amazon.

That hasn't happened, so we're taking a different approach.

The second book of Shrubley is still going ahead, and as it's a book close to my heart I'm going to keep writing it even if nobody reads it, but there will be a prolonged break following book 2. If, by some miracle, book 2 does amazing then I'll gladly reverse this decision, but as it stands the book has been a loss and that means we need to focus on books that can keep the lights on for the time being.

We'll keep the Shrubley tier up in case you want to show your support, and on the chance it hits a certain threshold we'll view that as a strong signal of support enough to start up chapters again.

In that same vein, we're going down to 4 chapters per week (Mon, Tues / Thurs, Fri) for Voidknight and also for Beastborne starting with Book 7.

The goal is to give us more time to work on the stories we've been holding back on because of our current obligations. So moving forward, we'll have a lot more time to work on new stories that excite and interest us as well as older stories we'd like to dive back into. You can look forward to more series coming this year where we'll be trying new ideas and mechanics we've never used before!

As far as releases go, we've got quite a few lined up!

Yesterday was Voidknight's first audiobook, in just two days is Shrubley's 2nd book, and at the end of the month (July 30th) is Beastborne's 5th audiobook, https://www.audible.com/pd/Voracious-Audiobook/B0D2JHZ9XK!

Then on August first we have the 6th Beastborne Chronicles, Beastborne: Tower of Blight, which will also mark the first time I've been able to have the preorder for the next book already sorted. I'll be sure to do a cover reveal and preorder link once it's all set up!

Is that all? Nope! The sixth Beastborne Chronicles, Beastborne: Tower of Blight (Audiobook) is up for preorder and will be out on October 8th this year! Talk about a fast turnaround.

Beyond that, we have Voidknight Ascension 4 which we plan on releasing later this year, as well as the Shrubley audiobook, and the sequel to Voidknight's audiobook as well.

And if there are no major catastrophes, we might be able to squeak another Beastborne release for a grand total of 3 this year. Putting us at 7-8 books released this year!

That's not counting the new series we have cooking either, so while it might seem like things are slowing down, that couldn't be further from the truth. We're only just getting started.

In closing, we wanted to express our sincerest gratitude for all of you who are here supporting our writing addiction. Whether you're an on-again off-again patron, or you've been here since the first Beastborne chapter, we couldn't have done any of this without your support. Thank you.

Is there news regarding scales and sea book 2?

There is a well-known phenomenon of "Non-human MC debuff" on Amazon. That's probably part of it, and while it sucks that people don't really want to give it a shot, the people who did seem to enjoy it! At the end of the day, that's pretty much all I can hope for.

Yep, first book is here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CW1L7SP4 and the preorder for the second book is here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7Y9F5J1 (the latter is also in the post). My favorite mechanical aspect would be the color magic system, and my overall would be the characters in general. I positively adore Shrubley's undaunted sense of adventure and optimism, Cal's nervousness as he slowly grows into his mage powers, Smudge's boundless joy, and Slyrox's forceful personality. And then of course there's the Countess and Sose who are quickly becoming favorites of mine as well. In short: I enjoy taking a break from constant anarchy and doom to something more lighthearted and fun. Even in the midst of dark events Shrubley's story has more light to it than most I read, and that's why it's something I'll never stop writing.

Beastborne, Voidknight, and Shrubley...all awesome! I wonder, with Shrubley, if people aren't as quick to read it because, "It's just a shrub", but damn if it isn't just a lovely wholesome read, unlike most in the genre.

Is Shrubley available on Kindle Unlimited? I thought I saw it pop up while I was looking at Beastborne (It was Voidknight that led me here; I binge-read all three released books in a week and wanted more). What's your favorite thing about Shrubley? Sorry for the rambling comment. Lol.
