Desmond The Demilich Prologue Teaser

A/N: Thoughts in the comments please! I really wanna write this story, so if you could be honest with likes and comments, let me know if you'd read this. I might be able to make it a weekly series with 1 chapter every week without affecting SIS or LTW.

"No! This wasn't how it was supposed to go!" The Calamity of The Northern Continent screamed into the face of his most-trusted friend turned most-hated enemy.

Eta scoffed. "You're right. I'm only sorry that I never killed you with my first blow. [Holy Radiance]!"

A mass of congealed light formed above the wrinkled and aged woman's head and rocketed towards the collection of bones wearing a gaudy and incredibly expensive looking robe floating in front of herself.

This skeleton, this Archlich, Jack Smith, put both of his bony hands out in front of himself and yelled, "[Unholy Shield]!"

A massive magic circle formed and shifted until it was in the shape of a black wall with tentacles pouring out of it. "I only wanted to go back home! You promised to help! All of these years... did they mean nothing to you?!"

Eta laughed with madness. "There is no way back 'home', you fool! Earth died long ago! Why do you think there hasn't been a single summoned hero in the past four decades?! I wouldn't be here slaying you now if we could toss you back into the cesspit you call home!"

Jack's shield cracked and the radiance pounding on it invaded every pore of his body, badly damaging it, but leaving his core otherwise unharmed.

Eta smiled. "Richmond was right. You are easy to shake. People would think that you were a human under all of that marrow. This ends here. Die! [Holy God's Might]!" Eta felt all of her strength fade from her and her remaining lifespan was cut in half to call upon the strength of her god, but it was required to kill the fiend in front of her!

A low cackle spread through the air before turning into an uproarious chorus of laughter. "Gone! Earth, gone?! Fine! I may not be able to defeat you, oh might Eta, the Harbinger of Yapool, but I can hurt you in the only way that I know how! [Unholy Rebirthing Ritual]!"

"No! You don't know that spell! Falto promised you didn't know it!" Eta forced herself beyond her limits and ate into even more of her lifespan to forcefully speed up her spell's formation.

"Hahahahaha! I've always known it! From the moment I first stepped foot onto Quilon! I never used it because I, unlike you, respect life! But now that it's come to this, your whole fucking world can die!" Power coursed through his pure-black bones.

Seven massive tentacles covered in unblinking eyeballs spewed forth from his core and grow to the size of continents! They wrapped around the planet and latched onto it with a deathly grip. The world's energy seemed to channel from the surface into these tentacles and them into Jack's core.

"You will pay for this, Jack! I vow on the stars!" Eta's spell has fully formed now, so she threw it at the Archlich's exposed body. Three of the seven tenacles withered up and died while Jack's body was turned to dust, leaving only his core. The elderly woman fell from the air, no longer able to sustain her [Air Flight] spell.

Jack's voice rung in her ears before she lost consciousness. "Raise me well, mother. Hahahahahahaha!"

***

In the realm of the gods, the God of Life and all things Holy, Yapool, watched with tears in his eyes as two-thirds of Quilon's residents died in an instant.

The mighty god wept for three days and three nights before he came to a world-changing decision. He could not punish Eta, his Harbinger for her unwise betrayal, nor could he punish Jack for his response. He was not a vengeful god.

"The child... I cannot let it bear all of the otherworlder's hate, all of the resentment..." And so, the mighty God of Life and all things Holy blessed the boy with a soul. A soul of his own. A single vessel shouldn't have been able to harbour two souls, but the God of Life made the impossible possible.

He moved the still unconscious Eta and hid her in a corner of the world unknown to man. Erecting a barrier unseeable by all, he set several restrictions. Eta would not be allowed to kill the unborn child in her womb, and she must provide a life for him after his birth.

"This is all I can do for you, Boy... May you live a life untainted by the sins of our choices..." Yapool felt no hate, nor love, all he felt was an unending sadness.
