Red Dwarf - Episode 1 - The End

I would like to respectfully oppose you, there. I'm not a purist - I recommend most people to skip series 1 of Blackadder as well. But series 1 of Red Dwarf is better than that, even on a low budget. It's still funny and well-written despite its flaws, in my opinion.

Jonathan Charles

It's definitely not the worst, the first 3 series are my favourite. XD

Wilss

Oh wow. I will adjust that going forward. Thank you for that

I'm not sure where you're watching this from but you're watching the remastered episodes which are a big no no. There are moments that are completely cut from the episodes. The orginal episdoes also have a real model of the ship, not this horrible CGI, so if you find the next one to have a real ship at the start, you know you've got the correct ones.

Good to know. We will ride the whole journey

YAY, a nice drop of Frank.

I can see why people don't like the first season as much and prefer the later ones. And the later ones are brilliant. But there's something about the loneliness of the first two seasons that I love. Obviously it's not sustainable for long. But I love how those darker moments, when you realise how bleak their situation actually is, balances out the comedy and sci-fi feel. The later seasons are better, but I do feel like it loses that feeling

I'm so pleased you're doing this it's a great show. Series 1 is definitely the worst, it's a common theme with UK shows - the first series is often the worst but from tiny acorns etc etc.

Unfortunately like many Brit shows, Red Dwarf is slow to pick up. Series 1 was made on a very small budget and is rather underwhelming, although it does have its fans. If you can stick it out, Series 2 is where it starts to develop into something good. Series 3 onwards is when it becomes a great show. I might annoy some purists here, but if you're definitely not feeling this first series, it might be wise to jump straight to Series 2. Personally I don't think that's such a big crime, as the majority of Brit shows become popular because most viewers jumped on to them at their peak. When I was a kid, I watched a couple of the first episodes and hated it. It was only when I jumped back in during Series 2, that I became a fan. If Brit comedy fans are ok with skipping Blackadder Series 1, then I don't see a problem.

It's cold outside there's, no kind of atmosphere. I'm all alone, more or less...

It does get a lot better. I found the first season to be ok, but the later seasons to be hilarious. Great that you are reacting to this. Hope you stick with it!
