First Month Wrapup

This isn't the daily chapter; that should be out in about an hour.

I doubt I'll do this every month, but hey - it's the first month so why not.

First of all, thanks to everyone for signing up for the first month. I know it's a bit of a leap of faith to sign up for that first month and trust the chapters to keep coming.

When I started this Patreon a month ago, I was three chapters ahead of what I published here. This month, I tried to write a chapter a day (and two chapters on weekends). Realistically that means eight chapters a week, because I have one weekday where I have evening plans that basically kill my ability to write. I'd planned to take a week's vacation and get some extra writing done, with the goal of putting more chapters out.

I was mostly successful for the first two weeks - I got up to eight chapters ahead and was trying to decide if I should add one in October or wait until I had enough to really open up the next tier - then a family emergency came up and I ended up spending my week of vacation helping to deal with it. I lost several days' worth of my breathing room instead of gaining. 

As I write this, I have four and a half chapters ahead written. I also have most of this arc plotted and some major points in the next two arcs planned. With luck, there won't be another emergency and I'll be able to actually hit my goals. I'm in a pretty good place now. Unfortunately, I don't have a week of vacation planned for this month, so extra writing to add enough chapters to make the next tier up worthwhile is probably not in the cards. 

The lesson for this month seems to be that I really need to maintain about a week's supply of chapters in case of emergency, and more wouldn't be a bad idea (up to a point anyway).

I want to open up the next tier and start growing them both, but for October we're going to stay at a week ahead. I'll be revisiting this for November when I know how my backlog is doing.
