Storyline: 16 year-old Mickey Bolitar’s father just died in a car accident, his mother is now in rehab for painkillers, he’s forced to live with his Aunt Shira, a Justice Department lawyer who interrogates rather than converses, and to make things worse, he’s one of two new juniors at Livingston High School in New Jersey and the starting seniors on the basketball team don’t want him anywhere near the court even though he is 6’4” tall and a basketball prodigy. Oh, and a crazy 90-year-old lady down the street tells him his father is still alive.
The one good thing that’s happened to Mickey is he’s met Ashley Kent, the other new junior at LHS. It’s a week into school and they plan to meet for a first date, so Mickey believes things are slowly moving in the right direction. But when Mickey and Ashley are supposed to meet up, Ashley disappears. When Mickey and his friends Ema, Spoon and Rachel start looking for Ashley, their search yields secrets buried so deep, they may even go back to a little girl in Poland in 1941, or possibly even as far back as the pyramids of Giza.
