Band of Brothers Episode 8 - Full Uncut Reaction

Since you guys have been reacting to Battle of Midway stuff on your YouTube channel, you might consider reacting to the 2019 film "Midway" (far better than "Pearl Harbor" imo). Though a few names were changed and events condensed, it was a pretty accurate cinematic depiction of what happened in those videos you have been watching

My dad served in WW2. Like so many others of the "Greatest Generation", my dad couldn't wait to help. He was born the son of a bi-racial Sharecroppers in Vance SC. His mother died in Childbirth and he was passed around between his mothers sisters, in Charleston SC. He dropped out of school and faked his birth Certificate at 13 to be able to work in the Shipyard(15 was min age) and enlisted in the army 2 days before his 15th birthday. Luckily he was in Australia, staging for the Invasion of Japan when the war ended. He came back and used the GI Bill to get his High School diploma. Then when the Nuclear Submarines were stationed in Charleston, he SELF TAUGHT HIMSELF, College math, then Calculus and finally Physics. When he passed in 1978, he was the head of "Tiger Team"(The Civil Service Nuclear Reponse team) that flew all over the world in a minutes notice, whenever there was a problem with a Nuclear reactor on a Sub or Aircraft Carrier. The last 4 years of his life he would fly to Los Alamos, New Mexico twice a year to lecture on practical application and wear of a Nuclear Reactors with regard to Non-destructive testing to some of the top minds in the world. Not bad for a bi-racial son of a Sharecropper. His story is typical for the time and I am such a Slug in life compared to him. Love you dad. Rick, Charleston SC

This confuses a lot of people. Hopefully, this simplistic explanation helps in the future. In the US military, there are basically two classes of soldier: Enlisted and Officer. Enlisted men/women sign a contract for a term or are drafted into service. They are the common soldiers who fill the ranks (privates, seamen, airmen). They promote into Non-Commissioned Officers who more personally manage the men in their units (sergeant, petty officer, etc.) Officers are the men/women who command. They nearly always have college degrees, apply, and are commissioned into service. They are also doctors, pilots, chaplains, and lawyers. They hold ranks such as Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General, Admiral, etc.. There are also Warrant Officers, but lets not go down that road. First Sergeant Lipton, a Non-Commissioned Officer, or enlisted man, received a battle-field commission. This is the uncommon route to Officer given due to actions and necessity in combat. In order to be given his new rank, he must be discharged from the Army as an enlisted man and then Commissioned as an Officer, being given the rank of Second Lieutenant. Without a battle-field commission or obtaining a degree and using a transition program, enlisted soldiers cannot promote into officer ranks. It's also worth knowing that while the lowest officer rank technically outranks the highest enlisted rank, much respect is given to senior enlisted soldiers and junior officers do well to recognize their place. I hope this clears things up.

When they are using the lighters on their sights its for the soot. The soot keeps the metal dull so it doesn’t reflect
