#716 The Human Students’ Representative
Added 2023-06-20 12:00:08 +0000 UTCI am Emisra of the human race.
I’m a young lady from a prestigious feudal lord’s family.
I’m only the second daughter, however.
My family’s children consist of only my elder sister and me.
Given that we’re from a responsible lordship family, my elder sister, Sera, was always expected to marry and inherit the estate.
A certain gentleman has been a constant presence in my sister’s life since we were children, and it was quite noticeable that they were secretly enamored with one another.
They were so head over heels in love that it seemed they would get married in the future.
The problem was, however, that this companion was one of our servants.
The eldest daughter, who’s supposed to inherit the house, has to marry a gentleman from an equally distinguished family.
Marrying a lowly servant is absolutely out of the question.
However, anyone can see that the two are deeply in love, so I thought I’d take over the responsibilities of inheriting the house to enable their union.
Since I had no special person in my life, I was perfectly fine marrying a swine-faced man, given he comes from a well-to-do family.
However, an unexpected incident occurred.
We, the human race, lost the war, and our territory was taken over. We were forced into a position where we had to obey the orders of the Demon King’s Army, the occupiers.
The order that came from them was “to send young talents with promising futures.”
The only one who fits the bill was my elder sister, Sera.
But if the eldest daughter were to be taken, our territory might collapse.
While everyone was agonizing over what to do, the one who raised his voice was Sera’s secret lover, the servant, Walkina.
—“I will go instead,” he said.
He was willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his beloved Sera.
Sera cried and tried to stop him, but nothing else could be done, so we sent Walkina off.
Everyone was deeply moved by his selflessness, and Sera, left alone, was sunk in grief.
...That was several years ago.
This year, Walkina has returned.
He said he had completed his training in the Demon King Army’s recruitment and had become a full-fledged person.
The returned Walkina was unrecognizable, as if he were a prince from a faraway land.
Needless to say, Sera was the most overjoyed. She had heard from Walkina through letters and visits home during his training, but his full-fledged return finally ignited her love for him.
She immediately sought permission from our father to marry.
Our father was greatly impressed by Walkina, whose readiness to sacrifice his life for his daughter and his training within the Demon King Army had allowed him to build extensive social ties.
That was enough to bridge the gap between the two, which was once considered impossible.
Thanks to that, they were finally able to be together, and it was decided that Walkina would become my brother-in-law.
It also seems he will serve as the feudal lord who will succeed my father.
Congratulations, sister.
Your love that has been nurtured since birth has borne fruit.
You’ve truly won in life.
Walkina, who had trained, was well-equipped with the political abilities necessary to be a feudal lord, so I’m sure he could take care of both my sister and the territory without any worries.
That leaves me suddenly empty.
I had intended to shoulder all the duties that come with being a feudal lord’s daughter on behalf of my love-struck sister.
But now, with Walkina assuming all of those responsibilities, my role has been entirely usurped. Things aren’t boding too well for me.
It’s heartening to see my sister and her husband in bliss, but my life plan has been wiped clean, which is quite unexpected.
What should I do with myself?
Just as I, who had nothing in particular to do, was at a loss, I received a suggestion from Walkina, now my in-law.
— “How about you try going to the farm?” he suggested.
Huh? Why the farm?
Do I, who can no longer inherit the feudal lord’s estate, have to go develop some remote area? I was about to get upset, but as I listened to his story, it seemed that wasn’t the case.
Apparently, my honorable brother-in-law, Walkina, had been sent to a farm for training under the directive of the Demon King’s Army.
It’s officially known as the Saint’s Farm.
Are you serious, dear brother-in-law? Isn’t that the legendary utopia that’s been rumored about in the streets?
It’s said that any wish can come true if you go there. For a while, dilettantes, dreamers, and even former Human Kingdom power-seekers desperate for restoration were frantically searching for it.
To think it truly exists...!
My dear brother-in-law, Walkina, who has trained in such a place, is impressive.
Furthermore, according to him, “The farm is apparently looking for new students to replace us graduates.”
The chance to train at the farm is coming around again.
And I will grab that chance for myself!
With respect to my age, the timing couldn’t be better. Now that Walkina, my wonderful brother-in-law, has taken over the family’s responsibility, I stand free!
Leveraging his connections, it was easy to prepare for a trip to the farm, which went smoother than I thought.
And since Walkina’s precedent ensured safety, convincing my family was easy.
I’ve been freed from obligations after all. Now, let’s go to determine the limit of my abilities!!!
And then, the day to head to the farm finally came!
With my sister and her husband seeing me off, I, Emisra, take my first step into the great sea of adventure!
Joined by people of the same age and gathered similarly, we were taken in a flash through a teleportation spell.
When we landed at the farm, I thought, “Oh, is this what it’s like?!”
At a glance, it seemed no different from the plantations in my home territory, but I soon felt something was different.
After all, there’s a Lifeless King!
A dragon!
There’s even the Demon King and the Mermaid King!
Also, there’s a super strong woman who looks like the princess of the former Human Kingdom! She looks just like Princess Letasreit, whom I had seen from afar long ago, but she’s definitely not the same person!!!
...The Saint’s Farm.
It indeed seems to be an amazing place, just as the rumors suggested.
My brother-in-law, Walkina, who trained here, turned out to be unrecognizably handsome, successfully had a lovey-dovey wedding with my sister, and hit life’s jackpot.
Following that example, it would be interesting to train here, gain power, and get a handsome husband!!!
Those who want something should seize it with their own hands! That’s the life philosophy of Emisra, the feudal lord’s daughter!
Having said that...
The first event that started at the farm was more than disappointing.
What’s this “potato-digging” all about?
No, I don’t mean it in the sense that “I hate getting dirty” or “I don’t want to work” like typical noble daughters.
I was bracing myself for some rigorous training since this is the place where my dear brother-in-law Walkina grew to be as splendid as a prince.
Such a playful event is a letdown.
I thought there would be survival training where all the freshmen would be thrown into a pit, and only the last one standing could get out after killing each other.
Ah... Maybe I made a mistake in my life choices.
While playing this potato-digging game, it would have been more meaningful to train by knocking down trees with roundhouse kicks...!
...Or so I thought. But then...
What’s this?
The potato I dug up started talking!
What is this thing?!
Daring to act relevant and important with a baron title... I’ll have you know my family is equivalent to an earl! We’re higher in ranking!
No, more importantly, a potato is talking?!
How is that remotely possible?! Is that a common thing here?!
Looking around, no one else seemed surprised other than the new students who arrived with me. So, is this really a common sight here?!
...I may have underestimated the Saint’s Farm...!
Indeed, it seems this place is filled with miracles beyond my imagination...!!!
Fair enough. I’ll absorb all these miracles into my body, embody them, and use them as a foundation for my growth!
