#701 The Saint’s Comment
Added 2023-05-30 13:16:23 +0000 UTCIt’s me again.
I’ve finished reading Ritheseus’ long letter.
It felt like reading an epic that would exceed a hundred pages...!
“Sounds like he’s doing his best back at his home territory...!”
It appears he’s currently giving it his all to rebuild the territory with the cooperation of his local supporters.
He’s maximizing all he has learned here—casting spells, wielding a sword, utilizing his knowledge of dungeon conquest and monster extermination, and even leveraging his connections.
What he learned here is being put to good use.
“Thank goodness...! What a reliefffff...!!!”
Sensei, the Lifeless King, who had been reading the letter with me, was overwhelmed with tears halfway through and was in no state to read further.
With a body resembling a mummy, one might wonder where he’s wringing out an incredible amount of water to cry.
Ah, perhaps it’s from the home of tears...
The heart.
“That aside, what in the world is Veil doing...?!”
There were several familiar characters in Ritheseus’ letter.
But I was particularly surprised to see Veil.
What the heck is she doing?
She’s casually distributing her overly toxic gonkotsu ramen again.
“She’s been getting less choosy about her methods just to get rid of the ramen...!”
I should keep a close eye on her, as she might even start contaminating well water and unintentionally mass-produce an invincible superhuman group.
There were many letters from other students reporting their current situation, but the most entertaining and turbulent one was indeed from Ritheseus’.
While the other students seem to be living in peace and quiet for the most part, Sensei happily read their letters documenting such unremarkable everyday lives.
Once he finished reading, he would fold it neatly and return it to its envelope.
“...I need to prepare a box to keep these letters safe.”
Right.
“Just the right size is enough, but while we’re at it, something elaborately bound would be nice. Something with decorations as dazzling as the feelings encapsulated in these letters...! Yes, perhaps I should ask the dwarves who frequent the farm. Do you think my dungeon’s mana metal is an acceptable reward?”
“Of course, Sensei.”
If you’re their client, you can freely bring it up to the dwarves on the spot.
This might be the first time for our Sensei to go “shopping” since he turned immortal.
His love for his students is strong enough to allow such a peculiar thing.
“How about pasting them on the wall so they’re always in sight instead of keeping them in a box?”
“Oh, that’s a good idea, Lord Saint.”
For instance, you could pin them on a corkboard so that you can always look back on many memories...
...
...After visualizing things, that sounds a lot like a girl’s room.
The innermost part of Sensei’s dungeon turning into a girl’s room?
Anyway...
There are other letters from the students, so let’s promptly read through them.
The next one is from Eryngear, who resides in the Demon Kingdom.
Eryngear was a prominent figure among our demon students, so it’s only natural to introduce her after Ritheseus.
Without further ado, let’s read her letter...
“I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus. I want to see Ritheseus...”
...
Yikes.
She was head over heels for Ritheseus even when she was studying here at the farm. But I never expected this level of obsession to surface after they graduated and returned to their respective homelands.
“Ritheseus is human, and Eryngear is a demoness. We knew they’d be separated once they graduated.”
Even Sensei seems somewhat taken aback by the letter’s cumbrous content.
I had anticipated something like this and tried to take some measures, but Eryngear herself refused, saying it was unnecessary.
It was clearly the kind of facade unique to tsunderes, but since she insisted, I didn’t take any action. Now, that has backfired.
Maybe I should still do something after all.
“But after she let out all her obsessive feelings for Ritheseus in the beginning, the rest of the letter is relatively normal.”
Do people (or demons?) calm down just by talking (or writing?) about their feelings?
The letter’s body, which became extremely rational and was filled with status reports, was quite a change from the frightening introduction.
Eryngear and her comrades, who were originally young soldiers, seem to be working in the Demon King’s Army again after returning to the Demon Kingdom.
While they were away from the army, they were treated as having been on a special curriculum for executive candidates, and upon rejoining, they were walking right in the middle of the fast track to success.
I was a bit worried about giving them such special treatment, but considering their training at the farm, maybe it’s okay?
“Of course! They’re my prized students, after all!” excitedly says Sensei. “They are respectable individuals who kept up with my classes! I’m not ashamed to send them anywhere! How can we, who were tasked to educate them, doubt their growth?!”
“Y-Yes, of course...!”
It was quite a task to calm Sensei and his enthusiasm.
From his point of view, it was not about the certainty of the education he had provided but about trusting the students who had worked hard in response to it.
“Like Eryngear, the other demon students listened to my classes attentively and made contracts with divine-class spirits. They’ve grown tremendously. Thanks to them, they can even manipulate forbidden-class offensive magic at will.”
Sensei, you’re overdoing it.
With such reinforcements, it’s only natural that they’d start climbing up the Demon King’s Army ranks once they return.
In comparison, the current high-ranking army officers would hardly stand a chance.
Someone like Belphgamilia might still be safe, but Mamoru might be outperformed!
But considering how hard-working he is, the organization wouldn’t last long if he stepped down from the top, so that’s probably not a concern.
All right then, let’s continue reading...
Hmm, let’s see...
“It seems the demons who graduated from the farm are now working in various military divisions. Some have become Heavenly Four aides or taken up commanding roles...”
Among them, Eryngear has taken up a position instructing new officers in the army.
She’s spending her days knocking down the cocky newbies and straightening them out.
It’s just like her past self.
Her haughty belief in the supremacy of demons caused her to be sent to the farm and rethink her views.
Is this what they mean by history repeating itself?
“Well, now that we’ve finished reading Eryngear’s letter, next up is...”
Many graduates have left the farm, and they are all dutifully sending us updates through their letters.
After finishing Ritheseus and Eryngear’s letters, reading about the merfolk next seems fitting.
The students representing merfolk are naturally the four girls—Discus and friends—recently certified as witches.
As Platy and others had painstakingly nurtured them to help with the farm work, the girls continue to manage the farm’s fermented food and freezing departments even after graduation.
However, before that, they returned home briefly to show their faces to their family members.
You could even call this a holiday between graduation and starting to work as adults.
Then again, most of the merfolk temporarily left the farm for this reason, so Platy’s schedule is hectic.
Garra Rufa and Angel are helping out, somehow managing the situation.
“Discus! Veiltail! Heckelii! Batrachus! Come back soon!”
They scream in genuine desperation, but I wonder how those girls spent their time in their home country—the Mermaid Kingdom.
Are they leisurely spending their short vacation?
Let’s find out about their situation through the letter they’ve sent...
