This was an actually rather quick thing to get done! I got it in 6 hours which is probably my fastest yet with this painting style and it's nice! ;A;
Sketch:
Loosely planned out expression and eye placement.
Lineart + Flat Colour:
I did some simple and clean lineart, nothing too major as it would just be a guideline for our painting and getting a better idea of form. I then laid down the flat colours of the character and got the markings.
Colour Planning:
Thinking of the already existing colours and markings of the character, I decided to keep rather analogous with the colour selection of shadow and light. As the character was mostly comprized of neutral tones, black white and mid-grey, I decided to use his blue accents as the focal point of the piece and went with yellow - blue- green-lighting.
Rendering:
I rendered out my colours and added texture in this process as well such as the rough/silkiness of fur and the wet reflections of the eyes.
Finishing touches:
I completed the rest in photoshop with editing my levels and adding a blur in select areas to help bring further focus to the face/eyes of the character. Taking it back into sai for the final step, I reinstated some lost details such as key strands of highlighted hair to further add dimension, and the little balls of light that circle the face.
It was rather simple but I really enjoyed how it turned out. Would this be something you guys would like me to have a raffle for maybe once a month for character's headshots for you here?
Let me know!
Kindest regards,
Momo
