He didn't use a spell list because the opportunity cost was too high. His current class doesn't have one and all the classes he saw with one sacrificed stats and dedicated/required skills to make them faster, stronger, more accurate etc. He can do all that himself, maybe not perfectly but in doing so, he can take other skills and have more stats. He's gotten to the point somewhat recently where it might be useful to use a spell list just for really complicated spells he can't otherwise cast but something that I've tried to make clear is that Felix enjoys learning and being challenged like this and overcoming that. He enjoys trying to find a better way and he has, instinct casts. He hasn't been able to make any other spell an instinct cast because he's been changing all his spells every other day recently but he in theory knows how they work and will be spending some time on them later for reasons (that will be talked about within this book). He also has other avenues to pursue in terms of being able to cast complex spells so he isn't backed into a corner on it yet. He's also seen spell lists as inferior, or at least everyone he's encountered has required vocal and somatic components, cast slower etc. Meta-Author knowledge: if he took the Mana Manipulation skill, it would actually fix all of that, he assumes this to be true but isn't entirely certain. Lastly, he's been told a few times and found himself, not to completely rely on The System for anything because it will stunt growth so he is a bit biased against it. In his pursuing all these avenues for spell casts, he's found and learned a bunch of new things, like instinct casts, preattuning mana, mana attunements and his own mana mental model and more.

2024-05-17 13:39:54 +0000 UTCI have 1 question and 1 point to make. Its a bit annoying for the MC to get nerfed in the middle of the fight without any foreshadowing...the question, I know the MC can free cast, but why isn't he using his spell list for a set of standard spells in a fight?
