Still reeling from the loss of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded beach for some much-needed solace. Despite the danger of surfing alone, Nancy decides to soak up the sun and hit the waves. Suddenly, a great white shark attacks, forcing her to swim to a giant rock for safety. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life as the deadly predator circles her in its feeding ground.

2023-04-12 12:29:47 +0000 UTCThe blubber and oil from the rotting whale carcass, plus some methane maybe created an oily slick which ignited when hit by the flare. Although I think whale blubber has to be processed to create flammable oil like they used to use in lamps.

As good as the movie is I can't help thinking how much better Jaws would've been if Spielberg had use of this technology. Perhaps someone will comp in a CG shark into Jaws, especially where it looks obviously fake.
