Another 10 Fun S&S Facts

• Spurs & Stripes tries to avoid as many BL cliches as possible since I’m somewhat tired of them (ex: high school setting/characters, "everyone in the universe is gay", love at first sight, etc) ...but will take full responsibility for tsunderes

• Red has 2 cowgirl friends that have helped her with the comic's setting and cowboy life (contrary to common beliefs, not all of us Texans rode horses to school! ;P) and has visited her friend's family cattle ranch, pictured above, many times for fun, er, research.

• Wes was designed to look exactly like Kylee's type (black hair, black clothes, pretty boy, etc) but was never intended to create 'love triangle' drama to avoid further cliches and also prove that love can still form outside of one's aesthetic comfort zone (Kim and Ky certainly aren't each other's preferred type)

• Kylee was more of a slut in the original script and everything he said/did turned suggestive but was reeled back to give him more dignity. And that would've gotten annoying real fast.

• Red spends at least 3-5 hours every weekday working on the comic or Patreon art but won't work weekends (unless emergency) to give her hand and brain a rest

• The bar scene never happened in the original story draft. The boys were going to get drunk/kiss at Kim's house and then stumble to the bedroom together. Changed up for Wes, Rocko and overall change of scenery

• It's never stated exactly where S&S takes place in Texas but it's written with the idea of being on the outskirts of smaller city (where Kylee would've been raised), like maybe Killeen or College Station, as opposed to the ranch being literally in the middle of nowhere. (basically they're not THAT detached from civilization)

• Many characters' last names come from Red's horror roots: Kylee's last name was taken from Vincent Price, Wes's last name was taken from the Freeling family in Poltergeist and Rocko's last name, Hoyt, is from The Strangers.

• Red's family and fujo friends playfully refer to Patreon as "dick money" what with how much man meat she draws for it 😂

• Patreon minicomic (or short fic?) ideas in the works *all are just loosely scripted so far*

-Kim, Ky, Wes plane ride adventure (rated: fluff)

-Kim sick day (rated: fluff)

-"Moaning" (rated: 18+, this one's at least thumbnailed)

-Ky gets ahold of a sex toy (rated: 18+)

Hope these were fun to read! And I hope all our Americans had a good Thanksgiving! I could write a cheesy 'thank you to everyone here, I feel so blessed and lucky to have this patreon fam' speech but 1. my hand hurts from typing so much and 2. you guys already know how much I love you ❤️ See you next week!!

And thank you for creating. Definitely one of my top 5 bl web comics. It’s just completely different from every other one I’ve read or heard of.

Crazy

ShellShock11C

Yep, usually an hour before work and then 2-3 hours after work in the evenings haha

Redmari

Wow, you work a LOT on this comic!

ShellShock11C

It’s funny because I think of ALL of those little character quirks for Kim and Kylee! Even if none of them pop up in the comic, these boys are more fleshed out in my head than any others characters I’ve created haha

Redmari

Oh, I love this! I always love learning new facts about stories I like quite a bit. Facts about the story and author are always so satisfying! I love finding out the little details that others don't particularly look for in characters like: "They tap their foot when thinking/nervous." and "On Tuesdays they like go cloudgazing in the park." Just little tibits ya know? It helps if you're a writer who enjoys writing fanfiction too, to know how the character acts and feels about certain things. 😁💗 Love love loved this! Thanks so much for this post. 😊💖

Metanoia

I think a lot of big cities and just general Texas is like that until you get to El Passo lol

Shay Bailey

Ha! I feel like Houston’s the same way, super busy city life and then boom, farmlands as far as the eye can see (which is coincidentally where this ranch was) :P

Redmari

And yes these where fun! <3

Shay Bailey

I saw the cows and first reaction was "Damn it they found my moms place!" Then I noticed the background which is a different. My mom owns a cattle ranch out in BFE and I am in Texas. I figured it was set around Ft worth cause its easy to go from Massive city to BAM! in the middle of literally no where XD. Same with Denton which is also a college town.

Shay Bailey

Yes, this was good, I would love more facts from you guys <3

Storyline (Aaliyah)

Lol! I’ve really only got one Texas stereotype story: We vacationed in London back in 2012 and a barista asked where we were from. We said Texas and she goes ‘Oh well yee-haw!’ And we were like ‘...yup. That’s a thing there’ It’s hilarious in hindsight, I’m still not sure if she thought that was a greeting we have 😂

Redmari

When I moved here almost 20 years ago (age 9) I definitely thought everyone rode horses everywhere. Then when they had that cattle drive at a Fort Worth mall the other day I felt a little vindicated.
