10 Fun Facts about Spurs & Stripes
Added 2016-03-24 23:58:22 +0000 UTC1. Kylee was originally going to be great at horse riding and the story would conclude with him bronc riding at a rodeo. (Ditched that storyline because I don't know shit about rodeo riding)
2. Kylee was also originally going to be a secretly amazing artist/storyteller but was dropped because that gave him too much imagination credit haha (and too much unnecessary sub-plot)
3. Kimrick was originally 31 and Kylee 17. Thankfully it was changed to 27 and 19 so not only is it not as awkward of an age difference, it's also legal.
4. Kimrick was originally doodled with a missing eye because Red had trouble getting his eyes/face to look right in sketches. But kept the missing eye because I liked the small vulnerability it gave him.
5. Red has a playlist of country songs and emo songs to get in the mood for drawing/coloring the comic. Kimrick's chosen song is: "Felt Good on my Lips" by Tim McGraw, and Kylee's is "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" by Set It Off.
6. Possibly the first non-horror/thriller story Red has worked on since high school.
7. The title "Spurs & Stripes" didn't come until way later down the creation line so to this day, Red and Mari still playfully refer to it as just 'the cowboy comic'.
8. Charlie was originally going to be gay but it was dropped because it felt too forced. (Though you can still pretend. His sex life is never brought up ;D)
9. Kylee's name came from the possum in the 2009 movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. (Which Red never heard of as a boy's name until then and loved it)
10. Kimrick's dad still owns the ranch but has retired. He was originally written to be living in the house with them, but it changed to him moving away to give the boys more solitude (and Kimrick more authority mmmyes).
