Always loved this movie. I used to show it to my students when I was a junior high history teacher. Jim was close to their age and so they were able to relate so much to him. You'd be surprised by how many, even boys, had tears in their eyes at the end...when Jim, for the first time, closes his eyes to REST

2024-05-21 13:35:21 +0000 UTCThe movie is based on a book by JG Ballard. The book is a semi-autobiographical story of his childhood growing up in Shanghai during the Second Sino-Japanese War. I think that’s one of the reasons Jim is such a complex character. He sees everything like a child would. Something another author would probably not really capture, because as adults we forget. His loss of innocence, you feel it.
