This is my first time ever watching this movie, too. I think that Edward does, as you said, represent everyone who feels outcast or excluded from what's "normal." I also think he represents artists, people with skills that cause other people to celebrate them or fawn over them (as everyone does for a time with Edward), but still feel different and not truly understood. I think a lot of artists see themselves just this way.

I hadn't seen it in a bit. I forgot just how emotional it can be. I think it is a combination of the acting and the music that can just get you. Honestly, people don't want to be treated special, people don't want to be treated harshly but normal. That is the most that can be asked of anyone. Bonus about this film, it is where Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp became a couple.
